Re: Cliff's BMW sells to MAX BMW

I've dealt both online and in person with both Cliff's and the NH Max's guys. First class in every way.

Re: Air Hawk or similar

I've been using the AirHawk for about 2 years on my '07 R1200R, and am very happy with it.

Re: barback/risers

I used the MV Verhoelen unit on my R1200R, and am very happy with the results. It was not necessary to modify any cables. The MV has been on just over 7,000 miles at this point.

Re: How much do u pay for 6k service?

I had the 6K service done today at Blue Moon Cycle (the BMW dealer where I bought the bike) in Georgia. Total cost was $164.22.

I've been using the Air Hawk pad. Not cheap, but I can do 400+ mile days, in our Georgia heat/humidity, without a problem.

Pirates' Lair sell a license plate bracket kit for the K1200S, which fits the R1200R also. The bracket has captive nuts for the license plate screws, eliminating the need for the wingnuts and making putting on the plate much simpler.

Dave:

Did you send it to Atlanta BMW, or Blue Moon?

I don't know the folks at ABMW, but the service department at Blue Moon is first-rate.

Best of luck with your fix. I look forward to seeing you on the road. I'm on the black R1200R, with the white pinstripe.

I installed my set today. They are fine-looking, no doubt. I would like to pass on a few hints to others who will be doing a self-install: 1. Start (but don't tighten!) the 6mm machine screw at the top, first. Then, install the lower (10mm and 12mm) fasteners. 2. The hardware supplied is of a poor q...

I put the 20" Cee Bailey screen on last weekend. The amount of wind roar in the helmet, at 55+ MPH, is appreciable. I did not notice any difference in wind pressure. Looks like I will stick with the smaller screen also.

Especially not Triumph oil, which is adjusted for left-hand driving and will plainly ruin any decent bike.

Whew! Thanks man, I almost made a big mistake. I forgot about the Coreolis effect of using left-hand oil.

The tech at my local dealership recommended my switching to synthetic oil at the 6K service. I plan to use the Mobil 1 Racing 4T (15w-50), packaged for Triumph, as I have 2 cases of it left over from my Bonneville days.

The standard BMW GPS (Navigator II/III) connector on the R1200R is forward and slightly to the right of the fuel tank, next to the horn. With a cutter to remove one cable tie, and a set of forceps (and a bit of patience) the connector can be brought into the daylight, after which connection of the G...

Re: Test rode a new R12..

. . . I'll be looking for some bar-backs and lower foot pegs (bad knees) from Creative Cycle Concepts. . . The bar risers are a great addition. With them on the R1200R, I can now spend a 6-8 hour day in the saddle (with occasional breaks) without waking up in a knot the next day. I also have bad kn...

I ordered the bar risers from MotoTechniques (1" rise; 1 1/4" setback). Install time was about 15 minutes. I did not find it necessary to make any changes to the control or brake cables; I did not even have to cut any zip ties. After 500+ miles, all is still working fine.

On my R1200R, I measure center-to-center on the clamp bolts as 3 1/8" x 1 1/4". Clear space between the handlebar clamps is 2 1/4".

Hope this helps.
