When I listen to music while riding, I've been using the Shure E2C earplugs with an iPod. They block the wind and buffetting noise pretty well. as far as volume goes, I set the iPod volume about the same as if I was in the house, about 1/8th of the range. I can hear the music well enough, and still ...

I've got a '04 Jetta TDI and it has been flawless. I average 43 mpg overall, and up to 51 on the highway, usually with the fastest traffic. The engine is like a tractor with tons of torque at low RPMs. If I didn't plan on keeping it for another 8-10 years, I would definitely be in the market for the...

Mark, Yes, I out ran it. It was sunny when I went in to eat some dinner, and when I came out the entire western sky was black about 5 or 10 miles away, with a mild southwest wind. I needed to get about 22 miles north to a motel for the night and I made it about 30 minutes before the storm hit hard. ...

One of my clips was found missing just before a trip in May. The local ACE hardware store had one to fit for $.15, so i splurged and bought 2 just in case. No problem since then.

Thanks Ivan!

Thank you for the information on Foremost Ins. My Progressive renewal premium was going to be $725. (Cook County, IL), but I called Foremost and it will be $452. The agent also said they include up to $3500. in accessories and $1500. for riding gear in the policy. This is a great site! Thanks, Jerry

Nippess, I bought their vented racing jacket 2 years ago. It is excellent quality and very comfortable up to about 90 degrees if you are moving, but like every other black jacket, it it hot at a standstill. I've done 2 long trips in it and love it. The vents work excellently and really flow a lot of...

I rode my R1200R out to the Rockies at the end of May on a 2 week trip. 4115 miles total for the trip. The R1200R turned out to be a fantastic bike for touring. I have a Rick Mayer seat, and a 18" Cee Bailey screen. There is a gentle flow of air on my torso, enough to keep the wind flowing thro...

When I ordered my R1200R, I opted for the self-dusting option. By the time i get up to 85-90 mph, the dust is all gone!

I received the new Rick Mayer seat this weekend and rode it for about 4 hrs. on Sunday. That's not enough hours for a good evaluation, but it's more comfortable than the stock seat at the end of that amount. I wasn't walking funny after the ride! I will take a photo and try to figure out how to post...

I rode yesterday for the first time with the Cee Bailey 18" screen. I also have the BMW sport screen. The Bailey is definitely less chest pressure, but not total. It still lets some air hit the jacket, mostly coming from the sides or maybe underneath the handle bars. It should be adequate for v...

I would be happy to be the brave, self-sacrificing volunteer and find out how far it gets after the fuel light comes on......but, unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my seat to arrive from Rick Mayer's, so one of you ought to do it.

Mine gets about the same, 220 or so then the light comes on. An interesting feature of the R1200R with the computer is if I ride hard at first on a full tank, it will say I have about 175 miles until empty. If I then ease up a bit for a while, it says I have about 225 miles until empty. The bike mak...

As long as you're careful and avoid trying out the R1200R, you should enjoy the R1150R for many years. It's a great bike!

Another tank bag to look at is the Wolfman Explorer Lite. I transferred it from the 12GS to the R1200R and it works great. It fits well and unclips easily for fill-ups. I like it as it holds quite a bit but is not too tall.

Hi Gary, 2 years ago, I was in a similar situation. My first bike was a Yamaha 55 when I was 16, rode a Honda 150 for a while in collage, a Yamaha 175 dirt bike all over the sand dunes and back roads of Wisconsin when I was in the Coast Guard, and a Honda 305 for a few years. Laid off bikes when my ...

Good choice if you were already going to paint it, now you can leave the body black below the seat and only have to paint the tank. That's always been my favorite look.

Don't miss Point Lobos State Park, just south of Carmel. It's one of the most spectacular spots on the coast that you can ride/hike around in.
