Re: If you ask for advice on a forum.....
Bwaahaahaahaahaa!!! That just made my morning (especially since I've already had an argument with the wife before 9am...)

Re: proud owner of a 04 rr couple of questions
The PC680 is an excellent battery. Highly recommended. It will take some fiddling to get the terminals hooked up, and you'll have to stuff something in the battery box to hold it in place since it's a bit smaller than the OEM battery. No big deal... With regards to the exhaust, I pulled my muffler o...

Re: DIY service history
I did keep track of my services... for a while. Now, I just don't bother. The bike will be turning 7 years old this year. Since I plan on keeping the bike for many more years, by the time I think about selling it, it will be so depreciated that I figure that maintenance records won't make a differe...

Ouch! I would be folded up like an origami doll if I had to sit on that thing. Here's mine, don't know which one it is but it's almost flat...

Re: R1150R Battery non OEM Valid?
We certainly are analyzing this awfully deeply. :? Here's the bottom line: The Odyssey PC680 is a GREAT battery at a MUCH better price than an OEM BMW battery. I installed one after the OEM battery left me stranded 100 miles from home. Yes, it requires some fiddling to adapt the terminals (note: the...

Re: Engine oil viscosity
The Mobil 1 V-Twin oil will work just fine. Since the BMW has separate engine and transmission oils (not to mention a dry clutch), there is not the same concern about clutch lubrication as there is with wet-clutch bikes. Because of that, it's okay to use an automotive-spec motor oil (such as Mobil 1...

Re: Missing my air intake pipe on my 2005 R1150R. Bad?
If your air filter was missing, that would be cause for concern. But the intake pipe? It's not going to cause a problem. You're just losing the "ram air" effect at speed, but that only provides a negligible power increase anyway...

Re: I want a better headlight!
Having had everything from ancient sealed beam headlights to factory HID systems, I've learned what is considered to be common wisdom: Ultra-White light (or "blue" light for that matter) is not necessarily the best choice. The human eye actually perceives objects better at night when using...

Re: Heat wrap
Exhaust wrap will get dirty and dingy rather quickly. Unless you're trying to create a rat bike, it just wouldn't look right IMHO. As another person stated, ceramic coating is the way to go -- there are a number of colors available nowadays. Black would look pretty sharp. I've had it done on exhaust...

Mine was exactly the same when I changed the fluid at about 5K miles. I didn't worry about it...and according to what I'm reading here you shouldn't either!

Re: Removed the rear muffler, LOVE the sound!
I went to my local Pep Boys and got a 1¾" galvanized steel exhaust tailpipe, about 12" long. Basically, it's a standard car exhaust tip with a beveled turn-down end. And it's made of heavy-gauge steel. Turns out it fits on tightly and the clamp can hold it down without and slits cut into i...

Re: Proud new R1150R owner
Thanks for the heads up on various things. I'm not going to panic about the clutch splines...at least not yet. That's just one of those things where you have to roll the dice and let fate decide. At least one of the fuel line connectors was replaced under warranty in 2007 (I have the receipt). Very ...

Proud new R1150R owner
I just got plain lucky. Picked up this '04 R1150R with 4K miles (yes, 4K!). Incredibly clean -- it will probably never be this clean again, because I ride practically every day. That's one of the nice things about living in South Texas. I will not disclose the selling price except to say it was &quo...
