Re: Oil filler cap
DAM650, I ordered the parts (filler pipe and o-rings) from MAXBMW.com which has excellent service. Take a look at the fiche for the part numbers. They used to include a packet of M&Ms with your parts.

Re: Oil filler cap
My 2004 was leaking badly so I replaced the filler pipe (plastic insert) and the two o-rings, but not the cap. That was 4 years ago and it has not leaked since. I have the metal cap that came with the Rockster but not sure if that makes any difference.

Re: Piston slap
According to my Haynes manual the level of difficulty is 3 wrenches, out of a possible 5. No need to remove the engine.
Let us know what you find. I've got something similar with my Rockster at 65k miles.

Re: Muffler Repack
I had a Two Brothers on my Rockster and never liked the sound. Last year I tried repacking. The can had been on for 50k miles and inside it looked pretty much the same as your pictures. However, I didn't notice much of a difference in the sound quality/level. So I removed the Y-pipe and put the cat ...

I've been using the Battery Tender Junior with good results for several years. Its a smaller/cheaper version of the Plus.

Re: slip on for more noise
I just removed the Two Brothers y-pipe and muffler from my Rockster, and installed the cat without the muffler. Very nice sound. I just need to find an exhaust tip to direct the exhaust away from the passenger's foot peg.

Re: Rockster Turn Signal Stalk Repair
That sounds like a professional repair compared to mine. About 2 years ago a woman planning to turn left backed up from the intersection as the light was turning red, and clipped my right turn signal and the reflector on the right front fork. I dabbed both with superglue and stuck them back together...

Re: Stickcoils-ectomy (would be the term I guess)
The one time my stick coils failed I attribute to heat. It was a hot day and I got stuck in traffic build-up behind an accident. I may have sat at idle for 10 minute and probably should have turned off the bike. When traffic cleared I immediately knew something was wrong. The bike wanted to idle at ...

Re: sleepy battery today
I finally replaced my battery with a PC680. I removed a BMW/Exide with a date stamp of July, 2005. It might have gone a few more months but I got a bit nervous this weekend when it turned over very slowly when I was 50 miles from home. I chose the Odyssey because of the many recommendations on this ...

Re: Loud valve clacking
My 2004 Rockster (56k miles) has occasionally experienced a clanking sound when pulling up to a stop sign when the engine is very hot on a hot day. This is most noticeable when using lighter weight 10W40 oil which I normally run in the Winter. I always assumed it was the cam chain tensioner remindin...

Re: Rockster 2004 - Oil Preassure Light on
There are several posts in the R1150R forum which indicate shorts in the wiring near the oil pressure switch can lead to this. The R1150R forum is far more active than this one and is a good place to check. Also, you should consider replacing the oil level sight glass if there are any signs of leaki...

Re: Tyres:
I ran 2 sets of Conti Road Attack and liked them. I'm mostly concerned with mileage and I got around 10k miles out of the Contis.
Last year I switched to Mich Pilot Road (the original ones) as I got a good price. They have almost 10K miles and look to have 3-4k left. These are the best tires so far.

I've replaced stick coils and quick disconnects on my 2004 Rockster and these are both known problem areas, but how did you decide you needed to replace the cable?

Re: Two Brothers y-pipe and muffler
Interesting. I've never repacked mine and its been on my 2004 Rockster for nearly 40,000 miles. How do you do this and what material do you use? Isn't the end cap riveted on?

Re: Two Brothers y-pipe and muffler
I bought my 2004 R1150R Rockster in January, 2006. The previous owner had installed the Two Brothers setup. It is fairly loud and I bought a stock muffler and cat from eBay thinking to replace it. But I never did. After 7 years and 38,000 miles, the muffler has held up. The chrome is a little pitted...

I believe the upgraded belt is applicable to vehicles manufactured July 2003 and later. I have a 2004 with a June 2003 date, and it has the earlier belt. It is easy to take off the plastic cover in the front to check this - 4 screws.

Re: Rear Tire...2005 R1150R
Ron, if you can find a nearby place that will change motorcycle tires at reasonable cost ($15 is great), go with that. Or learn to change them yourself. It is quite a bit cheaper to purchase online. Also, you might find a local BMW MC club that has access to a tire changing machine along with the ne...
