Re: Another Windshield Question
I was completely in agreement with Biff's R on the look of the Aeroflow Screen at first. I was put off a little because of the looks. My instinct went with function over form and I am really glad I did. What I did not expect was the compliments I got over the years on the looks of the screen. Only p...

I am 6' with a 33" inseam and I have been using the Aeroflow Screen. It is the most costly option but I have been very satisfied with the money spent. See www.aeroflowscreens.com

Fare Thee Well...
Well, circumstances, the stars and the planets aligned themselves just right for me to trade in the R1150R and pick up another bike. Really hated to let go of the BMW but my pocket book is rarely in the kind of shape to allow me to have my cake and eat it too... I certainly wanted to tell everyone h...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge update...
I have often considered that for this engine a cylinder head temp gauge like you see on an aircraft engine might be more useful than oil temperature. I am sure you are probably right. As Boxermania mentioned earlier, I usually assume and additional 15 to 20 degrees than what the temp gauge reads......

What do you use to clean the motor itself. Particularly the cylinder head....
An off the shelf engine cleaner does not seem to do too much for me.

Re: Oil Temp Gauge update...
GB = Gear Box... Well Duh!!
I was quite surprised at the jump in temps. Can't wait to see what the temps reach when it gets to the mid/upper 90's. Knowledge (Oil Temp Gauge) can certainly be a potent and sobering thing.
Everyone's input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Oil Temp Gauge update...
Boxermania... The Amsoil is Synthetic. Snowprick.... Not sure what you refer to when you say "GB"?? I have always associated the critical point of overheating when the motor begins to lose power. Is that correct or are there other indicators... I ask because the motor never began to lose p...

Oil Temp Gauge update...
As some will recall I installed the Daytona Oil Temp Gauge during the winter months. I had an experience today that was very alarming... I live in the Shreveport/Bossier area of NW Louisiana and participated in a Motorcycle Rally today. The temps were in the upper 70's to low 80's during the ride. F...

for me anyway... I was riding in a remote location yesterday evening. Saw a buzzard standing over his meal in the middle of the road some distance ahead. Knowing the unpredictable nature of animals I slowed way WAY down. Sure enough, when I got just about on top of him, he flew away right in front o...

Re: Several options for adding lights at the back
I do not have pics but I went the inexpensive route. I bought the DOT approved reflective tape that you often see on the back of 18 wheelers and plastered them on the back of my bike, bags and top case. I just figured to let the lights from the cars behind be do the work!! Obviously the major benefi...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge Install and Initial feedback...
For those who have "challenged" the initial solutions offered in this thread, I think your points are well made. Personally, I think skepticism can be a healthy thing. If I have not already mentioned it, I use the Castrol 5W50 Oil December through maybe April. From May through November I u...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge Install and Initial feedback...
As a quick update on the operating temp info... Temps got up to the low 70's yesterday afternoon. At hwy speeds (60 to 70) the temp gauge settled in around 205. Once I got back into stop and go traffic (which was about a 2 mile stretch) temp gauge quickly rose to the 215-220 range. As of this point ...

Re: Oil Temp Gauge Install and Initial feedback...
CycleRob, Yeah, as I think about your post I envision ways to really get stupid with this temp control system. Such as installing some form of hydraulically actuated louver system (think blinds over a window) that opens up air flow based upon temperature readings. Sorry but thats just the way my min...

Oil Temp Gauge Install and Initial feedback...
For those who like me find this information of interest, here is my initial experience with the Daytona (Oil) Temp Gauge this morning on my ride to work after having installed it this weekend. As background, my commute to work each day is 12.5 miles. Approximately 3/4’s of this distance is covered a...

Well I did not think you "drilled through" but I wanted to make sure. My Temp Gauge ( Daytona digital, thanks C'Rob...) comes in tomorrow. I am in the process of locating the proper tap. Probably install over the weekend. Will let everyone know how it goes. Thanks for the info and insights...

CycleRob's Oil Temp install...
For anyone that would know the answer, please comment and/or confirm... When tapping into the spot just below the alternator belt pulley, if I understand it correctly, this hole is not drilled completely through (thereby requiring the removal of this entire assembly to prevent shaving getting inside...

Oil Pressure Gauge...
So the most recent Oil article posted by Boxermania got me thinking. If I were to install an oil pressure gauge on a 2004 1150R, where and how would I do that. CycleRob's oil temp gauge install is not applicable (I do not think it is anyway) so has anyone done a oil pressure gauge install on their b...

Re: Motor Oil in the latest form
Hello Boxermania... I actually live in the upper northwest corner of our beloved state. In the wonderful Shreveport/Bossier City area. So we aren't quite neighbors! As for the oil, I use the 5w50 Castrol from December to May. Then in June I switch to the Mobil1 15w50. For my next "project"...
