well smoke came out of the area where the accessory plug is, followed by a burning smell. when starting the bike there is a whining sound, also it seems to not turn over like the battery is dead. new gel installed in august 2011. I would like to do it myself, can it be done?

This morning I found that my starter is/maybe going bad. Called Max bmw it will cost about 350.00 for starter & 127.00 labor. I need some asst. I can buy a replacement at the boneyard for 209.00 all I need is how put the thing in........

Fellas in my last post I had mentioned that the throttle grip lost its heating function while riding back from lake george....
I need to know why this happen ( is it a fuse? ) and what to do about it and how much it will cost if done by BMW?

I've been looking at the R1200ST. It has a fairing and adjustable windshield. First out in 2005. I did a lengthy ride two weekends ago on my R. After the final day - a nine hour ride, I felt pretty wind beaten...I was using a touring screen too. Exactly my thoughts those who "R" in denial...

I drain the air box, had at least a pint or two up in it............Since I got back from lake george, ny on saturday I have not ridden I will ride it soon two see if this worked or not. Also my throttle side heated grip decided to not work coming back home I glad it is summer, BTW one of my riding ...

Called Cliff's BMW they told me to drain the air box and see if there is any oil in there......If there is that is a good thing just let it drain out, if no oil is in there could be an issue with the engine.

Plus site glass was full when I left, when I returned it was empty......I know it burns oil, but damn!
