NorCal Ride Along the Pacific

Post by taosports »

A few photos of the ride Toner87 put together for us. Thanks Toner! And thanks Erock1150 and Dcameron - it was nice meeting and riding with you guys.

We met in Petaluma and decided to go west and hit the coastal curves of Highway 1 heading north along the beautiful ocean. A bit windy at times but otherwise a great day to ride despite the occasional clueless cagers  who felt everyone behind them needed to go as slow as they were. All in all though, the traffic wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be considering it was a holiday weekend.

Erock, Toner and Dcameron follow another beemer riding two-up along Highway 1

Didn't take nearly as many photos as I wanted to...just having too much fun riding I guess.

Thanks guys...we'll have to do it again soon! :D

Tao,
Great pics! The few I took are in this gallery here...

We did a similar ride last April and I've included a few shots from that trip to make up for the scenic shots we didn't take yesterday. We should have planned some photo stops... Be sure to check out the pic of ERock's $5.00 muffler tip can replacement. It looks great! I will be doing that to my Rockster very soon, maybe tomorrow, if I can get the bolts on the can loose... The nitrous sticker on his cannister is also a hoot!

Great ride, great company, great fun! We'll do it again.

Thank You Toner & taosports for taking pixs!! It's always great to have a record of the fun we had. We ended up doing a nice big loop around Nor Cal Highway 1 and 128 are just great roads I'm ready to go again :D

Great pics, did you have the camera mounted on the bars somewhere?

If I remember correctly, Tao has one of those small tripods that comes with a length of velcro strapping attached to it for mounting the tripod to trees, poles and - motorcycle handlebars... You can angle the ball joint so it points up and then you attach your small camera to it. It won't work with a big camera, just not heavy duty enough. I actually have one of these same tripods, but I've never had a small enough camera to do it. Even my Nikon 990 would be too big, I think...

Will have to look out for one, my little canon A85 would be OK on something like that. Thanks!

Chris,

Toner has it right, however once I installed my handguards, it gave me a convenient place to install the tripod socket (right on top of the left handguard).

This is how I used to mount the camera using a small folding tripod with a velcro strap.

Hey guys, thanks for the ride. Great pix - Michael & Cliff. I was wondering what camera you used. Thanks for the info. I'm doing the mod next weekend - Eric. Took a ride to Pt. Reyes this a.m. for breakfast - hangtown fry - great. Came back thru Occidental then Forestville. No wind and not too much traffic. Another beautiful day on NorCal.
Until next time.

Hi Michael,
thanks for the mount pics! I have a tripod like that, sure I have some velcro as well. Will give it a try tomorrow now, going to add a strap for security in case our 'smooth' roads bump it loose!

Great shots!

I was on some of the same roads Memorial Day weekend (Hwy 1 from South of Petaluma up past Eureka). I had just bought the bike and was riding it home. Since I was solo I didn't have any photos of me on the bike. So this gives me vicarious documentation...

Thanks,
Carlos

Made my own mount from a mini tripod but the vibration was too much for the camera on our potholed roads. Will have to make it a little more rigid and try it on smooth tarmac. Fun to watch the wobbly video tho, looks scary as hell!

Looks like you had some fun. The pics are reminiscent of our Great Ocean Road, here in Victoria.
Cheers...and stay horizontal!
