I believe the forks are slightly larger in diameter and the engine is a bit smoother and more powerful.

There might be a slight difference in the FD. Not sure here but perhaps the drain plug might be different.

Is it worth a $3k difference? I suppose that's really up to you. If $3k is no big deal, then why not? If otherwise...

I love my 2011 R1200R, but if I were considering trading to a newer bike, I would wait for the 2015 R1200R. I don't care that much about the water cooled motor, but I'd really like a real cruise control like those available on the other water boxers.

I had a 2007. My 2011 is MAYBE a little better but I think I should have just kept my 2007. The difference is subtle IMHO.
I finally got got an RT!

Hi,zackvis!
I used to have a white 2010R12R-gon in an accident, with 3000mls on it.Presetly I own a 2012 R1200R.Brought brand new 4mls at that time on it.Today I have 7000mls on it.Can not see any difference in smootnes, and power.Wibration got to smooten out by braking in,on hexhead or camhead either one(valves,TBs properly adjusted).Feeling wery little wibration on handlebar, that should go away, by braking in.On hexheads easier valve lash adjustment(don't need shims).FD oil drain plug on same place on both-90*-a6t bottom of FD. More powerful engine on camhead?1 HP and few p/f of extra. Is that worth 3,000$pluss....I don't think so.I would stick with hexhead.Sorry for my low profile English, but I finished mechanical engineering 1978 in former Yugoslavia.I put these down by my best wishes.Spend extra 3000$ for camhead?I wouldn't do that. But it is up to you.

While getting a 24,000 mi service on my 2012 R1200R Classic I put 100 mi on a hexhead R1200R service loaner with 42,000 mi. I thought my camhead was noticeably, but not significantly, smoother and quieter. At higher RPM's there was not much to distinguish them in terms of power, but between 2000 and 3,500 RPM the camhead had more pull. Service techs tell me the valves are very stable on the camheads.

When I bought my new R1200R 2012 Classic I had the option to buy a lightly used 2010 hex head with only 1700mi and one year of warranty left for about 4K cheaper out the door. At the time I rationalized the camhead motor, a new bike with 3 years of warranty and the Classic option was worth with the difference. But really I think I just got what I wanted, price be damned, and I don't regret it.

Hi all
I sold my 09 plate 1200 r two years back and only bought so I could ride after having a hip replaced. I was using a gs previous up untill the surgery. After selling I wished I never sold about a week after. Sold the gs too , in a lot of ways the r1200r is a better bike.it will do everything the gs will do and cruise at faster speeds.just can't carry as much. It was a dilemma what to buy.1200r or a triple black gs.
So I bought a megamoto , last chance to get one.
At Xmas bought the twin cam r1200r.
I made right decision.
The motor is more responsive , sounds good too.gearbox seems smoother too.
I normally do about 20000 miles a year commuting to work shared between a couple of bikes.
The twin cam is the one I enjoy most.
Piston :)
some days its not worth chewing through the straps and chains in the morning

This is something I think about.
What is happening to my skin?
Where is that protection that I needed?
