Mobil 1 Motorcycle Oil

Post by AZBMWRIDER »

Anyone here use Mobil 1 motorcycle oil in their bike ?
I'm considering going to it on my next oil change .
I'm using BMW branded oil by Spectro, 20w50 all year long .
Can't justify the cost of lighter oil for the short cold period we have in the Phoenix area, that passes for 'winter' .
Occasionally it gets to the 20's F here, but the usual lows are mid 30's to low 40's F .
Anyone notice if the synthetic oil is a bit easier on the starter on a cold startin lower temps ?
I don't put alot of miles on the bike in a year, around 5-6,000 or so .
But I would like to change the oil once a year .
I've seen Mobil 1 motorcycle oil on sale at O'Reilly's auto parts stores for $8.99 a quart for the 20w50 oil .
About a dollar more per quart than the BMW branded oil .

I think thats what I will use on the R.

Thats what I put in my old ATV, It turned out fine and I beat that thing UP. Sand dunes, drag racing....its decent stuff for the wet clutches, so I dont see why it would be bad for these. :D

Mobile 1 seems to work well on my 1911's.
I was overdue for a post.

A distinction should be made between Mobil1 and Mobil1 Motorcycle oils. It's an apples and oranges issue.

That is right! Most important if it's a wet clutch situation.
Dealer suggested I stick with mineral until 10K (2013 R). All my K bikes received Mobil 1 first change, with no issues. Because I live in a fairly moderate climate with no heat issues, I may stick with mineral until at least 8k. It won't hurt. I generally use Mobil 1 in all my engines. Do you guys feel the mineral break-in is important? Also, wondering if you Mobil guys use the V-twin or the other motorcycle Mobil in the Boxer?

Went from Dino oil at 10K to Mobil1, easily available from Wally-world, now started using Amsoil at 18K. The Amsoil published a report a while back on use in air-cooled Harleys, and they were seeing temperatures app. 20 degrees lower in daily use. Plus a guy I work with sells it, so its easy to get.

I use Mobil 1 in everything, T4 in the R1150r, no problems with starting into the low 20 degree range for my daily commute.
