Do You let Other Riders ride your ride?

Post by Sunbeemer »

Just wondering how many riders let other riders ride their bikes. I've had people ask me, and they're usually the ones you don't want riding it. (Interestingly , this seems to work the same way with boats, too - if they ask to borrow it, they don't know enough not to ask, which means they don't know enough to operate it correctly.)

I usually tell them my insurance doesn't cover them, and leave it at that.

What do you do?

When I bought my R, my friend had a 100th anniversary Fat Boy, that NO ON EVER rode but him. He wanted to ride my R, so I got to ride his fat boy.

I caught up to him 30 minutes later at a stop sign, wanting my bike back.
Sorry, but there is no mistaking a BMW suspension.

He said to me "This thing turns really good".

Granted, it's not a well designed list of choices. But, it appears as of now that 52% of respondents would allow an unlicensed person to ride their bike. Wow!

yes and no

i've two beemers, one for commuting and one brand new.

i will share the fun of driving the beemers but only with my daily
bike and if its wracked make some insurrace profit.

but on my new r1150r i'm verry reluctant to even have the mechanic drive it.

i'll send some pictures off my new dailt bike, great fun!

come over and have a free ride.

Very interesting poll.
From my point of view, if you break it down by demographics, the results will be different from the data you will get from this poll. The motorcycle in general, considered a different thing in different parts of the world. For example: in the poor countries motorcycle will be considered as a luxury, even a simple bike. The culture and religion in some nations, also will affect this poll as well. Upon arrival to US, I was quiet surprise to see how many people let others drive their car. In Asia, for instance, letting somebody ride your horse, motorcycle, automobile, camel, donkey, is equivalent of letting someone borrow you wife. I was very uncomfortable when I took my bike for 600 miles service and mechanic decided to take my bike for a test ride. This is the only time somebody rode my bike. I guess my Asian upbringing dictates my behavior.

Hey, the only folks I know that ride are the ones from the Gypsy Bash. I'd let any of you guys ride my ride.

With the exception of about 3 other people, that's about it.

So far, only my son and son-in-law. My insurance will cover them for up to a month, then they have to get their own.

Only if they have a valid license and more importantly if I know how they ride a bike.

I have no problem if the person meets all the legal requirements and i know he she is a rider. I would still feel a bit uneasy as the person is riding an unfamiliar bike.

On occasion I have secured a second bike and tagged along.....one time I stopped the ride a block from my house...... 8)

This may be key. I only let other riders ride mine, when I get to ride theirs!

Yeah, I MIGHT let someone else ride. But only if I've ridden along side them and know them to be an experienced rider.

In fact last summer met up with some old (and I mean OLD!) high school buddies for a ride. One afternoon did swap with one of them for a couple of hours. I wasn't impressed with his Dyna Glide. He sold that Harley last fall and is now shopping for an R1150R.

A convert! He's seen the LIGHT!
