I usually leave the computer displaying the ambient temperature while I ride. Several times during the last few days on the road, the computer has, without my pushing the INFO button, reset itself to display the Miles 'til "Empty figure. I know it does this when MTE is really low - it thinks you're going to run out of gas and wants you to know - but this is the first time I've seen it occur with plenty (say, more than half-tank) remaining.
Have any of you seen this behavior?

Re: MTE Spontaneously Appears
The computer on my R1200R started acting goofy. I would forget about it and then notice it again. When I has having a service done at my dealership I finally remembered to mention it to them. They cleared the computer and said it needs to be done every now and then, and it seems like if it goes to long and gathers too much data it gets overloaded. The owners manual has instruction how to clear the computer. Probably worth a try.

Re: MTE Spontaneously Appears
Thanks, John. Rebooting or resetting is a reasonable thought.
But I find no mention of it in the Riders Manual. Do you have any more information about how to clear the computer? Would removing the battery cable for a time do it?

Re: MTE Spontaneously Appears
In section 4 of my riders manual, there are instructions for resetting the average speed and average consumption. Not for resetting the entire computer as I assumed. To reset either one, it says to put it in that mode, and "hold down button 1" which is the info button.
There are also some comments in that section about engine heat affecting the ambient temperature gauge and giving a -- readout, and the fuel gauge not being able to function properly when the motorcycle is on it's sidestand.

Re: MTE Spontaneously Appears
Thanks. I'm familiar with resetting the average mileage, which I do when I fill up. I don't care much about average speed, and the computer takes care (or has been taking care) of MTE.

Re: MTE Spontaneously Appears
Back on the road today, and ran through two and a bit tanks of gas. The MTE display behaved correctly all day.
I can only surmise my prior experience was due to Operator Error, by having pushed the INFO button and not remembering doing so, or by looking at the Trip Odo, which I reset when I fill the tank., and thinking I was seeing the MTE display.
Carry on.
