Hi,
first, bike is -1150r,12200mi,03,non abs.I encounter some mysterious noise above trans. This noise appear only when bike is on idle.It seem to me like something is loose in there.Ihave check everything I could and is OK.The noise is sqeakin' and you can hear it just sometimes, when you rev.no noise only when bike shaking during idle.Trans and engine are OK no problem.Bike is runing fine, idle set up about 1100 or 1150,nothing extraordinary with bike as far as mechanical conditions.I know it is hard to determine what could it be by this explanation, but maybe some of you has experience with such a noise and could lend a helping hand.At least steer me in some direction what could it be.Thank you so much for any input Mark

Re: mysterious noise
Left side cam chain tensioner. There is a replacement part that fixes the looseness. See the write-up in the FAQ.

Re: mysterious noise
Mike it not cam tensioner,it's something loose by batery or somewhere in that location.

Re: mysterious noise
If it's near the battery you'll most likely need to pull the tank to find it. Offhand I can't think of anything it could be.
Good luck!

Re: mysterious noise
That could be 5 or more possibilities
1--Fueltank rubbing on wire harness or brake lines. (hidden under fuel tank)
2--Battery box brackets loosened/cracked/broken causing squeak.
3--Dry, squeaky,worn clutch splines.
4--Alternator belt squeaking (loose?).
5--Alternator brushes squeaking on contaminated slip ring.
To eliminate the possibility it's #3, With the engine idling, pull in the clutch and put it into 1st gear. If the squeak disappears completely, it IS #3.
Oh well . . . .

Re: mysterious noise
reef,
I got your message and will try calling Saturday (today) at noon. Don't alter your plans for then if it's not OK. If I get an answer machine, I'll try again at 3 and 6pm.
EDIT:
It looks like reef & Touchton may be removing the transmission to inspect and grease the splines. They can do it in a few hours, by removing the whole trans/swingarm/wheel assembly as one piece.
