I changed out my stock cat converter and exhaust can with a full Remus Revolution system. When I removed the oxygen sensor it was coated with a very thick layer of black soot. After I removed the cat converter, I noticed the headers and pipes to cat converter were also coated with thick soot.
Is this normal? Any suggestions on the cause? I bought my 2002 rr from a dealer about a month ago and it appeared to be in pristine condition with only 16,000k on it. Thanks, Loree

How does the bike run? Have you noticed excessive oil consumption? By the way these bikes do use some oil, it is normal. Break-in on these motors takes a good many miles (american, i think in miles). Some people (who really baby their bikes) do not notice their motors stop burning oil until 20K miles (32K kilometers).

I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...
It runs great. I've only put about 500km on it to date, and got about 280km on he second tank of gas. The first tank only got about 200km, but I think the dealer didn't give me a full tank.
I called the dealer's service department this afternoon and was told this is normal. I was planning to wait a while before buying a techlusion fuel injection kit (need to build up a few dollars in my savings account), but I think I may do this sooner. I thought a lean running bike would be less likely to build up soot?!
