but since you are here, I have a boot question.

I have read all of the posts before, and really don't need to open that can once again. (i just read an old chastisement from Dallara )


The Oxtar Matrix appears to have been replaced by the Matrix 2. This looks strikingly similar to the BMW All Around Boot, which replaced Traveler Light Boot. Both 190 bucks.

Any comments, especially complaints, about these boots (older and newer models both)?

reccommedations for other models/brands are welcome also.

I've had a pair of Oxtar Matrix boots for three years and have driven in many heavy rain storms (I seem to have a black cloud over my head whenever I go on a week long trip) and my boots have never had a drop of water in them. I usually carry a pair of hiking boots with me to walk in because I don't feel that the sole wil take too much walking without wearing thin. I would, indeed, purchase a second pair.

My Oxtar boots are the greatest I have owned. Not sure of the model but they have laces under the velcro. I can wear them to ride but they are real comfortable for hiking once I get there. No need to carry an extra pair of shoes when camping. Wearing out the soles would only require a trip to the cobbler!

I bought a pair of Oxtar Matrix boots right after I bought my R1150R in 2003. They have served me very well. They do not leak.

My complaint: I wore through the LEATHER shifting pad on the left boot. The nylon backing under it has held up much, much longer but is showing signs of wearing through also. The newer models of the same boot have a different material for the shift pad.

The tread of the sole is well worn now also, but I would not consider the wear excessive given how I much I wear them. I cleaned them once and applied a nikwax leatherpoofer. Otherwise they've been abused and show it with lots of scuffs on the toes. Never polished them.

Mine are due to be replaced obviously and barring something like the Combat Touring Boots from Aerostich I'd be very inclined to buy another pair of the Matrix. I haven't seen the Matrix 2 yet.

texbid - look like nice boots but I won't consider anything with laces as motorcycle boots. I seem to have a problem with them hanging up on the gear shift! On my old RS, I even managed to pop off the bottom of the Bing Carb with some laced boots!

I have been very happy with my Sidi On-Roads, waterproof and comfortable. Only complaint is lack of armor in the ankle and shin and the new version has added that, so when I need new ones, it's likely to be the same thing!
