I found this product that I think ranks up there as a good idea and it can't hurt.

http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?&SKU=47251

My only concern is any electronics in the immediate vicinity of the oil filter that the magnet may influence. Although, with the magnet on the underside or outside (just realized I don't know which way the filter is in this engine), I figure I'm safe.

Just wanted to run it by this group to see if there were any thoughts.

I actually bought the item and it looks much nicer than pictured on the website so if it is somewhat visible, it is okay.

Any and all comments are appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm not sure about the new 1200 but with my 1150 the filter is a pretty close fit and not much space for that on the side..

A few of us use a big round magnet on the bottom of the filter rather than on the side...I think it works..one day I might cut an old filter open and check.

My understanding of the physics is that is possibly to high a flow rate and too much PSI in the oil filter to hold onto much particle contaminant
a better idea is to add a magnet to the sump plug because it is a lot further away from the high flow rates being at the very bottom of the engine.
