2002 1150R non-ABS
There is a definite noise coming from the left cylinder, best described as a ticking or clicking. It doesn't happen during startup from cold nor is it audible at speed. However idle at a stop sign it is very noticeable. From what I've researched it could be the cam-tensioner chain rattling. Is this the problem and if so is it fixable? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, fairly cheap and easy to do.Thanks to this forum, I cured my T chain noise, but, you could also be hearing a noisy throttle body. Mine has one on the right side that clatters a bit when the throttle is just barely cracked. Kind of annoying but it can't be heard going down the road.

My 04r also has what sound like a timing chain noise w/decelerating @ 3-4k rpm . I tried to look back through archived posts but couldn't find anything.any 411 will be appreciated,thank you

ctree - Look at the second post in this thread (from me) and click the link. The change-over of tensioners was in the 04 model run as far as I am aware. Yours may, or may not, have had the new one fitted. It's an easy check.

If yours has a 17 mm head on the tensioner cylinder, then it's the old type and you may benefit with a reduction of 'lash' noise by changing it.

If you have a 15mm head on the cylinder now, then you have the upgraded parts already, so it's probably not that part giving you the noise.

The problem is only on the left side as the tensioner is at the top. You just need to slip a 17 mm or 15 mm socket onto the head and see which one fits. It's a snug fit, but you can see it if you look 'just right' with a small torch. You can also 'feel' for which socket fits, but your fingers then block the view.

A flexi-drive extension will also help. My post has the pics of the difference, and later posts have the part numbers under the same link. Good luck.
