Low fuel light??

When will the low fuel light come on? how much fuel will be left? I currently have 220 miles on this last fill up and the bike is saying that I have another 75 miles left in the tank. I think I would have to push my r1150r to the gas station if I went 220 miles on a tank. (city riding)

155 miles, light comes on.
Fill up is about about 3.7 Gallons.
So there must be over a gallon when my light comes on.
Best I ever did was 185 miles riding downhill from Upstate NY.
220 is incredible.

What is the mpg on the 1200?

Mine gets about the same, 220 or so then the light comes on. An interesting feature of the R1200R with the computer is if I ride hard at first on a full tank, it will say I have about 175 miles until empty. If I then ease up a bit for a while, it says I have about 225 miles until empty. The bike makes its own gas! (I guess it re-refines the exhaust from other vehicles.) Truly an amazing motorcycle!!!

I have yet to get 200 miles from a tank, and I've gone all the way down to when the computer said 6 miles left.
I'm hoping my mileage gets better, but my wrist has it's own idea's about that.
I do know for a fact that I put 5.9 gallon of gas in the tank one time. I don't see why a person, under perfect cicumstances and driving style could get 290 miles out of a tank.
I was hoping to see you at the CRBMW Hot Dog night tonight Jerry, I think it was you they were talking about. It seems there's 3 of us with 1200R's now.

At 2,000 miles on the bike I am routinely getting 50mpg now, and that is not being "slow" by any means
Tank capacity with 10 miles showing on the computer is about 5.3 gallons when filled on the center stand. I usually rock the bike on the stand when filling to burp the tank and maximize fuel load. The fuel light usually comes on at about 40 miles showing on the computer. The fuel monitoring setup on this bike seems to be very accurate.
I am presently running about 235-245 miles per tank running around town with mixed 70-80 mph runs of 20 miles or so between home and the city.

On my first tank the low fuel light came on at 229 miles and it took 4.6 gal. My next tank I filled up at 197 miles and it took 3.2 gal. Looks like gas mileage is going to be very good with the R.

light came on today at 245miles, filled it at 258 miles with reading of 30 miles left, It took 5.89 gallons.......manual says 4.6 gallons...NOT...

I saw in a magazine article that the R1200R had a fuel capacity of 5.6 gal. Then I saw the specs that listed the capacity as 4.7 gal and I got depressed and confused. Then I looked CLOSELY at the manual - note: I only read manuals as a last resort-
- Manual states 4.8 useable gal and then there is 3.2 quarts in reserve (when the low fuel light comes on). Hope this helps.

I would be happy to be the brave, self-sacrificing volunteer and find out how far it gets after the fuel light comes on......but, unfortunately, I'm still waiting for my seat to arrive from Rick Mayer's, so one of you ought to do it.

Mark, I have run down to 10 miles showing on mine as noted in my previous post. I was playing around my home where there are lots of gas stations to coast into or not have to walk far in case of error.
This fuel sensor/computer setup seems to be a very accurate system. I don't think I will run much below 10 miles, as it seems to be tickling the tail of the dragon, and it might bite me!

You guys need to try different gas stations! They are ripping you off - giving you less than a gallon, when you are paying for a gallon. If you put in more than the tank can hold, the gas station should be checked for accurate measurements.

I have used 3 different stations so far and I I'm getting the same mpg's.

I was wondering why I could get so much fuel in there. If you look in the manual, it shows you that there's reccommended fill line on the 1200R.
It looks to me that there's enough space past that fill line to explain taking 5.9 gallons of gas. Like I said the computer said I had 6 miles left when I did this fill up.

Just remember that there must be some expansion space in the tank or the gas is going to overflow and create a fire hazard ! Probably not a good idea to totally stuff the tank.

Yesterday at 251.4 on the trip meter I put in 5.378 gallons of gas while on the side stand. Pretty good mileage. Most of it was interstate two up with a full load of camping gear. I forget what the mileage was when the light came on and how much it said was left when I stopped to fill up.

I've only had the low fuel light come on once, at 228 miles and it took 4.6 gal, an average about 49mpg. Since that time I've avereaged about 52mpg and have gotten 60 a couple of times. Of course, my throttle hand was being lazy when I was doing that
