Loose gas tank

Hi!
After riding my RR for 300km it seems that the gas tank is moving a lot when the bike is idleing. The tank moves prety much, and i can hear a rattle inside tank too. Someone else have this experience too?

I'm at about the same number of miles. Yes, I've noticed vibration at idle with the gas tank that smoothes out if I raise the rpm's a little. Also some vibration in the mirrors under strong acceleration. Nothing rattling, though (you might want to get that looked at).
My experience with another late model oil head was that it ran 100% better after the first service. Maybe some of the roughness will go away. Then again, it's a hot engine. High compression, etc. It might just be the nature of the beast.

Clarification please: can you move the tank around on the frame when stopped and on the center stand? If so the retaining bolts are probably loose. The tank should not be able to move at all.

Yes i can move the tank a little from side to side when parked. Cant find any bolts at all, only the plastic side panels holding the tank i think.

Hi!
It still rattles in my gas tank! It is worse when low on gas. Think it might be the gaslevel sensor.
Still no one having heard this on their bikes?
I`m only 34 years old so maby the problem will solve it self when i get older and my hearing gets redused?

I'd remove the tank and make sure all the mounting parts are there. It's apparently easy to lose the rubber cushioning "donuts" when re-mounting the tank. Maybe somebody got sloppy...
The procedure's in the Owners' Handbook.
Edit: Whoops, I was referring to the R1150R. The 1200's probably about the same, but I'm not sure.

I ride a R1100R normally and the first thing i noticed when i took a 1200
for a ride was the vibrating fuel tank at idle...
my guess is the rubber mounting grips are still new soft & pliable
combine that with a new engine and voila...
guess its another one of those BMW quirky things that you acknowledge then forget by going for a long ride

My R850R vibrated, and so does my Rockster. All the mounting points have rubber. I don't see how it could not vibrate. It is idle speed dependent; definitely there at 1000 rpm, much less at 1200. But, you should still make sure all your mount points are secure in case you've got something abnormal going on.
As for the rattling, it's tough to say. If you really know it's coming from your tank, it could be your gas level float hitting the inside of the tank. That's being talked about in a different thread.

My gas tank definitiely does the hippy hippy shake at trafic lights. However, I don't hear any rattling. I agree that possibly that should be looked at.
I'm at 1,300miles on my bike and have had it through readline but only to 98mph so far bor a very brief stretch. It handled like a dream. Otherwise, haven't encountered the ideal conditions yet.
