One day less than six weeks and my fairing came in today. It won't get painted until early next week. Painter out of town this week. I really wanted to put it on the bike for a few days but held off. I'll be out of town next week but my painter should have it done and ready for install on Saturday the 31st. I ordered it with the 10" tinted shield and also bought the 18" tinted for colder months. If you order direct from Parabellum, a second shield is only $50.00 additional! I had someone hold up the fairing with the 18" shield. I sat on the bike and was looking over the top of the shield by about two inches. Perfect! I'm 5'11". The ten inch shield should be great during the hot summer months. I'm really looking forward to getting it on the bike. Ride report and photo sometime after the 31st.

PS. My tinted BMW mini-shield with brackets will be for sale shortly after the install. Package deal, shield and brackets.

Ordered bike yesterday; ordered Parabellum Scout today. Now we'll see which one gets here first. I ordered the 18' shield also. I figure if it's too high I can cut it down.

Now for an exhaust.

Damn Mogu, you don't waste any time! Congrats! You're going to love it.

Both Wudo and Wunderlich have nice looking similar fairings on their show R1200Rs.

Fly....you're right I was out riding! No fairing until it's back from my painter. See my original post... the 31st at the earliest.

The paint work is done but I will be out of town and unable to pick it up until Sat the 7th. Sorry, no pics for another week.

Picked up my painted Scout fairing yesterday and installed it last night. IMO it looks great on the bike! Mounting instructions were rather brief but they worked. The installation photos were of great help. I love the look of the 10" windshield but I opted to install the 18" for now. I will probably run the 10" during the summer. Needless to say I am dieing for a test ride. Probably won't be able to get one until later this week what with the snow and cold that returned. I will post some photos later this weekend.

For those of you considering the Scout and wondering, like I was, which taller shield will work for you, here's some more help. Tape a string across the highest point of each mirror. Add five inches of verticle height from the middle of the string and that's where the top of the 18" lays. I'm 5'11" and it's about 2" below my eye level, which should be perfect.

When are you guys going to post pictures? I've seen the ones at the Parabellum site, but I'd like to see more. How about a couple of side views?

Ride report??

Geeze, tough crowd! I wanted to wait until today so that I could post a ride report at the same time. Sorry about the link but it's easier than the flickr deal.

The 18" shield (pictured) is perfect for cooler weather. I also have a racy looking 10" shield for the summer months, also tinted. The top of the 18" shield is about two inches below eye level. Perfect. I went for a 30 mile ride today and the wind protection is outstanding! It was 39 and I was on I-96 at 80 MPH and nearly had to turn off my jacket liner. That was never the case with the little mini-shield as the jacket was working hard just to keep me warm. Now the heat is on the plus side, just like it is on the LT in the cold weather. Air coming over the top of the shield is minimal and it is also "clean" air with zero air turbulance. My Rick Mayer seat, scheduled to be built on 5/15 should be the crowning touch.

That DOES look pretty darned good. How long did it take to get it not including painting? And the cost?

Mark.....It took almost exactly six weeks to arrive after the order. Cost, $499.00. Additional $50.00 got me a second windshield. Normally an additonal shield is $150.00, but if you opt for a second one at the time of purchase he throws it in for $50.00. That's if it's ordered from Parabellum direct. A good deal IMO. My painter charged me $155.00 for the paint work, which included the cost of the paint. The 10" shield really looks great too. Check it out on the Parabellum site. http://parabellum.com/

Hi, I'm a newbie on this list and also to the R1200R. I am very intereted in the Parabellum Scout like the one Richard has on his R12. I don't know how to post directly to Richard so I'll have to ask him via the list. Have you noticed any change in gas mileage with the new fairing? How does it effect acceleration? And lastly, you said that you didn't get helmet buffeting, do you think the buffeting would be better or worse with a shorter shield like say a 14" shield? Thanks for your help Richard, I am just about ready to order a Scout and I need all the information I can get.

Jim: I can't say that I noticed any increase in gas mileage. I have both the 10" shield and the 18". No helmet buffeting with either shield unless it's windy, then the 10" yields some buffeting. Guess the 14" would depend on your height, etc. It's a great product and IMHO really works well and also looks great on the bike. Rich
