After doing the oil and filter change on Saturday , had an urge to escape on Sunday. The weather was cool & dry ~ 10C. Aimed up the busy M1 at 10.30am then across M18 east where traffic was lighter. Got on to the A164 heading for Bridlington. Lots of cars in queues but got past between the 30 limits. Headed north along the Yorkshire coast road, bypassed the charming old towns of Filey and Scarborough.
It was around 1pm so stopped at a biker friendly cafe, The Flask, a few miles south of Robin Hood's Bay. Lots of other bikers zoomed by.
After a warming pot of tea and a few loo stops, I refuelled (145 miles done) and headed to Whitby. Turned south over the moors , passing close to the Fylingdales early warning Station. The traffic lightened and was soon flying past the for wheel drives and tourist traffic. Stopped briefly in the old town of Pickering but the castle was still shut for the winter break.
Headed down the A64 and stopped at Castle Howard for a toilet stop and an ice cream Was quite warm by then - at least 15C. Home via M1. ~ 280 miles some faster than others. Great.

Ahhh, that first ride of the spring, after a winter of hibernation and anticipation of that next run-out. Looking at magazines and pictures, and wishing you were on your bike. Finally the weather gives in, and allows you that cherished opportnity to regain your freedom, adventure out once more!
I too managed that first ride of the spring today. Here, in a land where all speed cameras point at the front of your bike, where there is no limit on the motorway, the normal constaints of the 4 wheel variey are very distant. As I headed off down the twisities toward my favourite lake, not really worrying too much about the speedo. The sun was shining, most others were at work, and the roads were pleasantly quiet, allowing me to re-find my bike again after a little time-off. As I cruised passed the fields, and through the small villages, I wondered if maybe I shouldnt just keep going for a few days. I had a credit card in my pocket! As I crested the last hill, and looked down over the forrests onto the Mohne See the sun glistened off its still water, reminding me WINTER IS OVER! A coffee stop, and a seat in the sun to daydream, and wonder where I might go this year!
Ahhh yes, thank god for motorcycles, freedom, good weather and of course credit cards!
