Tire Questions

Ok, I need a new set of tires before summer catches me offguard.
From the info that I've found it look like I'll be getting a full set of Metzler Z6's. I'll be replaceing Z3s, I didn't get much life out of these, just over 3k

Metzler's Website Reccomended 180/55R17, is this the size that everyone is using? I could swear that mine has 170s right now.
R 1150 R 01-05 120/70R17 170/60R17 7
R 1150 R Rockster 03-05 120/70ZR17 180/55ZR17
Where is a good place to buy these online?

JTP...The standard R1150R has a 5" rear wheel and can only use a 170 rear tire..max.

The Rockster has a 5 1/2" rear wheel and can also use the 170..but can also use a 180..max.

I think the Rockster comes with a 170 standard...and if you like the look of the bigger rear tire you can go bigger if you want to.

Bigger is not always better...it's how well you can use it... :D ...btw a bigger tire will not turn as good..so I've been told.

I wish my bike had a 5 1/2"..I would love to be able to use a 180.

The Rockster has a 5.5 inch wide rear wheel (one of the assorted differences that make the Rock sportier than the R1150R), so yes, the tires are going to be a different size.

I bought on ebay an R1100S rear rim and just installed it on my R1150R. This rim is 5.5 in. and it allowed me to install 180/55. I installed Continental Road Attack tires. I’m no expert but I don’t find it any harder to corner the bike, in fact my chicken strips seem to be smaller compared to my old tire. :D
By the way I would highly recomend the Continental Road Attack tires. They do come in 170/60.

I fitted Metzler Z6's last summer and they were excellent all lrounders. I did 2000 miles to the south of France and back and lost 1.5mm of tread. They handle well in the dry and very predictably in the wet although not as sure footed as Michelin Pilot Sports. A friend on a CBR600 lost me in the rain and she used those ( yes - she!) Hope this helps. Puss.

My M 6's have @ 5K miles and still look good for a few more. I ride mostly country roads here in Northern California with many big and small, tight twisties. Almost no slab riding. These tires are like velcro. :smt023

Another quick question. For my Rockster do I get the OEM "C" Metzler Z6 or just the normal one?

^they have pretty decent prices, and they ship fast. same day, maybe.
...and you get the normal one. not the oem replacement. i don't know which bike that's supposed to be for.... 1200ST? probably wouldn't make a difference anyway.
