Amber Bulbs

Where is a good place to buy amber turn signal bulbs? I bought my clear lens from Max BMW and thought I would pick up the bulbs locally. Looks like they are not to be locally found. MAX took rather a long time getting my lens here so I am reluctant to order the bulbs from them. I don't want to wait another 2 weeks to use my clear lens. It is after hours or I would call my semi local BMW dealer.

Mark,
I've used this source for my 1156 amber and red turn signal bulbs :

Thanks Michael. My choices would be much better if my bike used or had room for an 1156 bulb. The smaller bulb it uses has the same base but smaller glass.

I ordered the bulbs through my local ( sixty miles away ) BMW dealer and got home and prepared to install them. I found that three of the five I bought had the little positioning pegs at 12 and 7 instead of 12 and 6. I had to file one of the pegs off to make it work. No big deal but it still annoyed me nontheless. It seems like something they would keep in stock and that it would be correct ( no jury rigging ) when you go to install it.

Well..... I ordered a pair of bulbs from the above listed link without first consulting anybody. I hope they work.
You see, I installed some running lamps that act as turn signals on the back of my bike. I hooked them up as brake lights AND turn signals. But the amber lens gives mixed signals to the mind's eye of those behind me. They see amber (traditionally a turn signal) when I apply the brakes (traditionally a red signal).
So I used some Stain Glass Window paint to convert my amber lens into red..... NOT! They ended up a kind of wild pink/red, and are completely useless as a signal in the bright daylight (they work great in the dark!).
I ordered some red (two contact 1157) bulbs. I could chose between a "chrome red", "non-fade Japanese red", different LED clusters, etc. I went for the non-fade Japanese..... whatever the hell THAT means. Well, $20.00 shipped..... we'll see. Has ANYBODY had ANY experience putting a red bulb behind amber lens.... and do you have any wisdom to offer????

Are you guys useing 1156s in your turn signals? Mine are smaller. I didn't think the 1156s would fit beneath the lens.

I ordered the clear lenses for my bike, not the hole expensive kit with reflektor and lenses. Had to buy the amber bulbs too. The amber bulbs have two pins that is different than the clear ones, but i just pressed the amber ones in without any mods done. Worked out just fine for me. An other solution is to buy some orange transparent spray paint and mod the clear ones.

All I could find there were 1156s. Will they fit ? I thought they would be too large.

For the life of me I can't remember if it's 56 or 57. I do remember I ordered the wrong ones and had to return them for the other. It was 3 years ago my brain is failing.

I finally remembered to go have a look at the bulbs on my bike. The 1156s are too large to fit behind the lens. The socket size is right and the bulb would work IF you didn't put the lens back on.
This was my problem. I could find amber and Blue Ambers for 1156s at many stores nearby but not for the smaller bulbs like on my bike.

As mentioned above, the 1156/57 are too big.
The correct bulbs are:
R1200R Turn Signal Bulb: 5008 bulb.
I've been told that BA15 or #87 or 97 will fit as well.

I have some extra amber bulbs that I will send you if you want them. Let me know. I have extras.
I went a little crazy and bought the chrome coated bulbs. They are
SO cool and look fantastic with the clear lenses. They flash amber but disappear when they aren't on.
They are the G18.5 chrome coated bulbs, part number CBG18, at Clear Alternatives.
