BMW R1200R R1150R/T F800 K1200R R1100R/T R1250R RnineT Message Board

Hi All,

I am a long time owner of a 97 R1100R (45k miles) that I purchased new as a leftover in 1999. I live in Manhattan (NYC) where we have potholes that are bigger than most apartments here and I have become fond of my spoked wheels for their look and their ability to withstand these city potholes. I have heard more then enough stories of standard wheels being damaged and warped by our lovely potholes here in the city.

My question is two fold in that as I don't see spoke wheels being an option for the new R1200R and would like to know if I bought aftermarket spoked wheels either from BMW or somewhere else if the bike would accept and be find with spoked wheels. The 2nd part of the question is could I swap my spoked wheels with the wheels on the new R1200R as they seem to take the same size wheels.

You can't change wheels(R1150R 4 holes and R1200R 5 holes to retain the wheel). Hving wheels made could be an option using hubs from the R1200GS lacing them up to thr R1150R rims. Don't know who's able to do this though in your area and it could become pretty expensive(maybe taking this in mind and if you realy wan't spoked wheels a R1200GS would be a better bike for you). You could also use lots of other rims but this would mean using innertubes witch to me sounds like a bad idea. I also wonder if you could get a set of HP2 wheels that BMW offers for there supermotord conversion but I don't know enough about this wheelset. It can be done though(look at the Wunderlich website under presse and look at the R1200R trophy bike):

I would suggest Woodys Wheel Works. They are the best wheel smith in the US, they have done mods like what you want many times.

I just saw an ad by Wunderlich in a German magazine.
They offer spoked wheels for the R12R.

That's nice! I want the bikini fairing. And the wheels and the little rear fender thing. OK it wouldn't kill me to have the brake rotors either.
