Hi,
recently my R1150R started to shift into the neutral from 1st gear if I kick the upshift too softly...is it normal or is the cluth going to kaput soon?

Mine is a 02 model with 50000km on it... thanks a lot in advance!

Mind if I ask what bike you had before the R?

I had this problem to begin with, turned out I was just changing too quickly and not smoothly enough. An old habit from riding my CBR, which had a much shorter throw on the pedal. I also found I wasn't pulling the clutch in all the way sometimes, another bad habit I got from Jap bikes, the CBR gearbox was pretty refined and didn't actually need the clutch most of the time, while the BMW's can be a bit more, erm... "agricultural" for lack of a better word!

I still do it every now and again, but old habits die hard! It's really just a case of adjusting. Can be embarrassing I know, especially when pulling away fast, couple of times now I've hit neutral and revved it up, then found second and got the front wheel up

Hello paithorn; yes I had exactly the same 'problem' in so far as, if I 'gently' shifted from 1st to 2nd, I could often remain in neutral. However, I now shift positively from 1st to 2nd and the problem's gone.

Yup, this is a question of proportion. If only a gentle nudge got you from first to second...how would you go from first to neutral? 8)

Thanks guys....

I was riding Japanese bikes all my life till I got this BMW...

What I did not make clear was I ahd no rpblems with the gear shift going into neutral from 1st gear till recently(So i can't really be my riding/shifting technique)

Also when I meant "soft" I meant relatively softer kick, not the kinda pressure you shift from 1st to Neutral.....
