I was looking at this info, as I was very surprized at the wieghts of the new RR and the R1200GS. All weights are "dry" & prices before options, which is a bit misleading as some bikes come with some options as standard.
R1200R 437lbs 4.6 gal $13,025
R1200S 419lbs 4.5 gal $14,725
R1200GS 439lbs 5.2 gal $14,875
R1200ST 452lbs 5.5 gal $14,925
R1200GSAdv 492lbs 8.7 gal $16,775
R1200RT 505lbs 7.1 gal $17,075
Looking at the above I notice the following:
1 - The pricing looks pretty consistent for what you are getting accross the entire boxer line
2 - The new R1200GSAdv weighs pretty much exactly what I recall the old R1150R. Shows how the weight has really been shaved off the new 1200 series.
3 - I notice everyone bitches about the weight of the GSAdv., but nobody seems to bitch about the weight of an RT. I'm beginning to look seriously at the GSAdv.
I don't know for a fact, but would not be surprised that when the R1150R was selling for $10,000 (of course the ABS in those days was a $2,000 add) that the RTs were in the $14/15K area.
I seriously doubt that it costs BMW $2,000 less to make an RR than an ST, IMHO an RR is equal to an ST with a few hundred (at BMW's costs) less in plastic.
Bottom line, the RR looks competetivly priced to me in comparison with other BMWs.
