Sidestand Kill Switch

Group,
My sidestand kill switch seems to have died. Bike will start fine if it is up on the center stand (side stand up or down). Put the bike on it's wheels and it is like you have the key in the off position, side stand up or down.
Just incase you ever have this problem. You can disconnect the wires (3 wire connector) from the switch, but.... this will not allow the bike to start. You must wire across the two colored wires (third is white and isn't needed for this). Bike will now start no matter where the stand is or if it is on it's wheels or center stand.
I know, I know it's not the safe way to "fix" the problem but BMW didn't have the switch in stock. Switch is over $125.00, by the way.
Do these things start to fall apart at 55,000 miles?
Alan
