Hello:

I happen to stop by an the local bmw dealership (Foothills BMW) today, and they had a couple of the new r1200r. One of them available for demo rides. I could not say no. I currently own an '04 r1150r. Here are my observations:

1. Seems like I sat a little bit more upright with the new bike. Could be the seat height. Also, the bike had more of a GS sitting feeling than the older model.

2. Power delivery is smoother and there is more of it.

3. The shifting was very nice. Don't recall any clunking during the test ride.

4. Seems to be a bit more flickable than the older 1150r.

5. Breaks are very good (ABS), but then I don't have abs on mine.

6. The charcoal container is located between the gas tank and the head light assembly.

7. Really like the head light assembly.

That's it for now, I will post additional info as I remember it. ;)

Regards,

Dex
P.S. Not planning to buy the new one. More than happy with my current bike.

I like it!

I rode one, too. We have three at our dealership here. I was impressed with the power and quick steering. The bike is quick and the motor feels strong - that must be torque. The bike steers quicker than my R1150R and does side-tto-side transitions more easily. It is a sportier bike all the way around, I think. The motor is smoother, too.

Also, the stock seat is better for me that the old one was and the air around me was smooth without a windshield. I would change the bend of the bars, but others might like them just fine. It took me a few miles to get smooth in shutting down and reopening the throttle while shifting, but I adapted - it's just different than my bike, with more power and more engine braking.

My verdict after a 15 mile test ride is that I would love it.

Well, I'll see if one of the guys can put on some spandex and lipstick...then we can take a typical DJ picture.
