Last Wednesday night I had a performance in Reno and took the opportunity to take my Rockster out for an extended spin. The gig was a Gilbert and Sullivan Revue that I've been doing off and on again for the last 5 years...
The ride to Reno was all interstate slab on I-80, but Thursday I took the scenic route home taking Hwy 395 from Reno to Lee Vining and then Route 120 through Yosemite and back into the Central Valley. The ride home was 383 miles and it took a little over 10 hours, including pictur, fuel and Fig Newton stops...
Man, even with the Sargent seat my a$$ was numb when I got home...

The driest road killl I have ever seen. This poor bugger would have blown away in a stiff breeze and really was "flat as a pancake". Is this a bobcat?




Another style of ride. Taken at the Tioga gas mart in Lee Vining. Now that looks like a cush machine and it made me feel downright proud to be riding my naked bike.

It's a crime to blast through Yosemite like that, but I looked at it as more of a scouting mission, so I can plan the next trip with my wife.

Yup, the Iron Door Saloon is quite a place. It's said to be the oldest operating saloon in the state. The beer on tap was a nice reward after a long day bicycling from my home to Yosemite a few years ago.

I'm heading out to Reno from San Francisco tomorrow...any suggestions on good rides around the area?

This is what Taosports said recently about my planned trip to Reno:

"One word of advice T...stay off I80!

Seriously. If you have the time, I'd head to Reno via Highway 88 and up along Tahoe or 395. On the return, definitely go up Tioga Pass through Yosemite's Tuolomne Meadows area. You won't regret it. Also if you're in Lee Vining around lunch time try the best gas station food you've ever eaten at the Whoa Nellie Deli at the Mobil gas station there in town."

It all depends on how much time you have. Definitely check out
http://www.pashnit.com for the best road reports and pics... If you come home via Yosemite prepare for a long day. Long, but SO worth it.

The "geek" will be climbing half dome next time he's in Yosemite... Not the hard way, the easy way with the cable railing...

I don't quite know what to say. I very much enjoy these pictures. Makes me really want to go there. That's a sure sign of a great ride report, one that after you read it compels you to visit the same area.

Great pictures! It must have been frustrating to have to travel through there so quickly. I imagine you could spend a couple of days making that trip and not see/do everything you wanted to. Thank you for the report and great views of the area.

I could have gone the rest of my life without seeing the roadkill picture though! Hopefully, you haven't started a new trend in photo reports in that aspect!!!! I don't think I want to have to include a shot of roadkill in my trip reports since the roadkill I see the most are armadillos and that is a really nasty sight. Didn't that bobcat stink?

Well, the only reason I included that picture was because, in a way, it was the oddest "road kill" I'd ever seen. Heck, I'm not even 100% sure it was road kill... Maybe it just lay down and died in that position.
It didn't smell at all, as it was totally dried out. In fact, it was upside down when I came across it, and I couldn't tell what it was, so I gave it a kick and it flipped over. The other side is just, well you can imagine... Dried out guts and bones... I'll put a warning on future road kill shots
