Chaps really chap me!

I don't like to go on rants about this sort of thing but lately I have to take issue with one of the most worthless pieces of riding gear that seem to be part of the "uniform" for the cruiser set. Chaps! There are everywhere. Saturday during a stop on my ride a group of 10 HDs were stopped and 18 out of 20 riders/passengers had on black chaps!

Same thing in Gatlinburg and the Smokies Sunday and today!
As someone who has experienced doing a perfect hook slide into a ditch via the asphalt and has seem many videos of same, I know you spend time on your butt cheeks when this happens. Chaps don't cut it! Chaps are for cowboys!
The only thing chaps do is show off a good posterior and frankly, I ain't interested in most of the ones I see encased in chaps.

Get some real riding gear. Heck, Draggin' Jeans look better and probably work better!
There, I feel better now.

You know people that wear chaps aren't interested in protection. Biker style and cold knees, that what it's all about.
Wooo hoo, loud pipes save...

I wear chaps
.........ONLY in the cold weather. The rest of the time I wear jeans
.........BECAUSE - until someone can make some women's riding over pants or pants that fit my criteria (cute,

low waisted and offer protection), I'd rather wear chaps and take them off at a rest stop or my final destination and be in my jeans than to walk around in pants that look like they were made for man and are so uncomfortable for me. It is still possible to wear knee protection under jeans and chaps.

Oh, I forgot to say chaps on ladies are okay!

Chaps seem to be mostly to fend off bugs and small kicked-up stone attacks. Protection from the cold blast in winter helps only some. With the old H-D crowd it kept oil off your jeans. The current fad is all image !!!
My wife has quietly mentioned that chaps are so hot looking that she gets . . . hot.
I may buy a set just for after dinner entertainment - - - - mine!

GypsyRR - please don't take offense but you probably fit in the catagory mentioned in my third paragraph. But keep looking for some good fitting proper riding gear anyway!
As for CycleRob's wife's comment - way too much information Rob!

In Tucson loud pipes help to save lives. Wakes up those brain defective "snow birds" we get each winter.
BTW, I don't wear black leather riding gear. Bright color and reflective BMW jackets and bright RED color motorcycle is my choice of riding style for city street survival.

ebiker - you must really "stick out" at HD events!
Edited to correct brain fart!

"Stick"?? I guess you mean stick out. Yep, I wear the orange and black color BMW three seasons jacket, which some Harley folk think is a HD jacket.

During summer months I wear the BMW Savanah II red jacket. Imagine a bright red motorcycle and rider wearing a bright red and silver jacket.
AFA black motorcycle riding clothing is concerned, IMHO, black color is not a good choice for safe city riding.

Yes, I meant stick out! Once again the brain out ran the fingers!
I will edit it!

Just in case any of you guys make it down under...down here Chaps are only found in gay bars.......(so I've been told).
In all the years that I've been riding I don't think I've ever seen any out on the road..even with the Harley guys.
I think we all think that they're gay.....not that there's anything wrong with that...

I'll probably get banned for posting this, but perhaps this will change your mind about chaps ...

I don't see anything wrong with that pic...except the color of her gear...that's one pic that makes me think "Only in America"..
I hope she's not about to run up the back of a car that may have stopped in front of her..while she looks at her picture being taken..

Well, it IS a BMW board so posting a picture of a Kawasaki might get you banned from the board. Posting a picture of a girl in TACKY pink chaps might also. But I doubt that posting a picture of a girl who is obviously wearing pink pants (evidenced by the black belt around the waist line and the tacky panty lines) under her tacky pink chaps probably will get you banned from the board.

Wow - this thread is going downhill, fast. This should be good for a laugh!
