R1150R gearbox rattles

Has anyone noticed a rattling sound when travelling at highway speed coming from the gearbox area. I just picked up my (new to me) 2004 R1150R from the dealer in Louisville and rode it home to New Orleans this weekend. I never could determine exactly where the sound was coming from, but best guess is the gearbox/final drive area. Any thoughts?

do a search on "rattling" or "ringing".
then convince yourself that our beemers make noise and it's "OK"
then ride and don't worry about it, the germans know what they're doing.

My 04 has what I would describe more as a ticking than a rattle from 3500-5000RPM's. Most noticicable when using very light throttle. I've decided that it is indeed normal. Now, I just pay more attention to the voices. Hardly notice the other noises.

could the rattle be coming from the catalytic converter? just a thought.

Thanks for the replies! The sound is still there, but the more I ride and read, the more I am getting used to it as a sound the bike makes. If I had a radio, I'd just turn the volume up.

The Rads purposely put a box of rocks into all U.S. bound Beemers since they know we consumers will be driven nuts by it.

I also had a rattling sound that drove me crazy until someone suggested I check the back of the clock. Well, it was loose and rattled around 3500 rpm and upon deceleration. EZ fix.

I get a very annoying rattle from my tank when I am low on fuel! Honest - no joke! I am told by the dealer that it is common and is the fuel sensor rattling against the side of the tank when not surrounded by fuel. He also says that it will cost quite a few shillings to fix so I just live with it and keep looking forward to filling up to shut the bloody thing up!
