How to insert foot in mouth...

Today I got my lady friend to ride pillion with me for just the second time in the two years I’ve had my R.
The first time went well but was just a short ride. I was bright enough to take it easy. Knew that if I did, there was a chance she might ride with me again.
It worked. Yesterday,
she suggested we go for another ride. WooHoo!
So, today we went out to the coast and up twisty Highway 1 along the ocean to Gualala where we had lunch, checked out a favorite photo gallery of ours and headed back to her home. A 250 mile ride. And the best part is, she wants to ride again!
But here’s where it all went wrong.
When I got to my home, I called her up to thank her for suggesting the ride and to tell her again how much I enjoyed spending the day with her. So far, so good. Then she asked how my ride home was and
before even thinking, I said it was great. “The bike handled
so much differently without the, uh, without…uh, well you know…it felt great. The ride home was good.†I said.
“You mean, without the extra
weight on the back?†she asked.
Couldn’t get out of this one…the damage was done.

Well..I sure put my foot in my mouth in the same way...I said how different the K1200R was by myself...and the gear changes were so much smoother..and..er..er..well..mmmm...I tryed to explain how I must have been trying too hard with her on the back to be smooth..but she didn't buy it....bugger!
Glad the rest went well...

Don't worry 'bout it Michael. Just tell her that while it IS true the bike handles differently without a passenger, the benefits of having her close behind you far outweigh any handling differences.
No! On second thought don't use the "weight" analogy. Use "cancel out" instead. The weight subject is taboo...as you well know.

been there and done it myself. Might I suggest flowers, dinner and a sexy women's motorcylce jacket as atonement.

HA! I spent the weekend looking for a new riding jacket. If you can find one that is functional AND sexy, please forward the URL! I don't think there is such a thing!
Tao,
Don't worry about it, she probably hasn't given it another thought. We just like to point out the mistakes you guys make, then we pretty much move on from there once we've made our point. Oh, and one more thing........we do move on, but we don't forget. We just add it to the arsenal for future use.

I blurbed the same kind of comment a few years back...but it worked out in my favour.
My wonderful wife (and best-bud!) decided that she would simply have to get her own bike, and she did!
The rest, as they say, is history...
we've put on ten times as many miles side by side as we ever did two-up, and both of us have enjoyed our favourite past-time with our best friend and riding partner ever since.
Sometimes, these 'foot in mouth' things actually work out REAL well in the long run.
Hopefully, it ends up that way for you too at some point.
Cheers,
Chris

Even when my wife weighed in at 95 pounds, I could notice the extra weight! Now she has balloned to 100 and doesn't ride with me.
Gypsy - some of us would say a woman in any type of motorcycle jacket is sexy!

Well that'll cheer him up no end! Knowing that this is stored forever in the female retribution databank...so relax Tao, but not too much eh?
How'd you get that Gypsy avatar? Very nice.

I made it. I learned how to do it once upon a time and never forgot it. Then I stored the knowledge in my arsenal for future use.

Photoshop? When blokes forgive and forget they really do forget...we have smaller arsenals than women....

So . . . . How much does she weigh??
Just tell her a passenger of any weight will always noticeably impart a change in the handling to some degree and 100% of the time it is not as responsive as solo. You can also point out that she's the very first one to have sat there.

Michael,
If you're still in trouble when you call her again, mention that certain roads that are *just right* for two-up (like going to Gualala), and others (like the road home) are *just right* for one. Yup, absolutely, she can even ask us!
...And, you just happened to know of another series of roads that are *just right* for two-up ... on the way to Monterey and maybe beyond to Big Sur ... perfect for two-up! And the weather is looking good ... especially on Sunday!

I understand completly.
After I returned home from my recent trip I made a similar mistake.
I started talking about how great it was (after I dropped her off in Phoenix)
on all the twisty roads in Colorado. It was hard to dig myself out.

taosports....Yep, you manage to put your size 11 foot in your size 9 mouth. but Gipsy is totally right.
I have a very good friend and we are still the best of friends but now and again if I get under her skin she will remind me of an insignificant incident, from the male perspective, that took place over 12years ago.......ladies do remember.
John Wayne used to say that if the horse dumped you, get up, dust yourself and get back on the saddle.....go ahead and invite her for a ride this coming weekend, I'll keep my eye on the local paper to see if there are any reports of a motorcycle with the seat and tires slashed.....He,he,he,he
