R1100R Exhaust Options?

Post by BreadMan »

I'm buying another R1100R, which still has the stock cat and can. I want to put an aftermarket exhaust on it, and I know it's not as simple as sliding off the stock can, which you can do on the R1150 models.

So, what options are there, and if you've done them, please chime in.
And of course, if you have a used system for sale, PM me, or post here.

Because the R1100R has a one piece exhaust....(I think)...

I don't see why you can't cut the pipe just before the can and use a small sleeve or collar with two clamps..that way you could run with an after market can.

Or no can at all...

Just a thought.

I'm ok with no can at all. The cat does a sufficient job of muffling sound.
It would also allow me to run with a full-size system case.

However, I would prefer to do a y-pipe/ can combo to really open it up.

Had a TBR system on my 1100R, sounded great! So great that I'm running it again on my 1150R. You won't find it loud at all...if you're used to harleys

LeoVince does one for the R1100GS, perhaps it'll fit yours? The specs:
Ref. 6457 - BMW - R 1100 GS (1994/1998) - Type: BMW259 (R1100GS)

Laser Systems seems promising:

Advert from Laser:

My motorcycle originally has a catalyser. Can I replace this when changing the exhaust? And is it necessary?

LASER has an extensive catalyser program. When replacing the original exhaust for a LASER you have the option of keeping your motorcycle with catalyser. The LASER replacement catalyser is integrated in the connector pipe of the exhaust.

In some markets it can be necessary to replace the cat in order to maintain official homologation. It is however always possible to use a LASER exhaust without catalyser on a motorcycle which is originally equipped with catalyser.

Hope the above helped ...
