Fuel leak

I was just about home from work (60 miles) when I could smell gas and then saw a quick flash. Pulled the rock to the side of the road and noticed that fuel was spaying out all over the bike and my right leg. Turned the bike off, and noticed oil all over my leg as well. The bike has been great for 5k miles (30 some days) but I'm not too happy now.

Sorry to say - the leaking fuel hose clamp thing is one of the bike's few faults. Our Roadster started leaking after a couple years' riding, and waiting for Rockster to start doing same.
Plenty of info here on the board re: fuel leak fix with fuel injection hose clamps... not too difficult to do. We changed out the clamps on the Roadster this summer, no leaks during 3k miles riding thus far.
Note: I specifically requested that the Eugene dealer address this issue when the Roadster was in for big service, but no remedy. It's a DIY thing.

Happened to me too. The BMW Service said that indeed it is an occuring problem. Good thing the warranty took care of it.

According to the shop the clamps did not contibute to the fuel leak. I blew a fuel line. At about the same time the bike started to leak oil as well. Maybe she was tired of the 120 mile days. Been in the shop for a week now.

As I understand it, there was a recall on the RR for the fuel line. Does anyone else know of this recall? I only recently bought my bike...and heard (read) about the recall just this week, so I'm not exactly a reliable source.

Yes, there was a recall -- to inspect, and if necessary, recrimp and/or replace the clamps. It's been suggested that the crimp-type clamps be replaced with screw-tightening clamps, but the recall doesn't cover that. My dealer said they replaced the clamps with the screw-type, (and those failed, a couple of years later.) I always check the right side of the bike, watching for fuel spray when I start up.
