Got the Hepco Becker topcase and rack from Eurotech. Only issue I had was that Hepco assumes you have the bolts that attach the factor luggage rack to the sidecase rails. $2.50 for 4 M6X25 allen head bolts at Lowes and I was in business! Heres the rack:

And here is the bike with the case:

Its a 40LT case and its big enough for my XL helmet and maybe a light jacket and gloves. Actually a little bigger than I was expecting. The finish is almost a perfect match.
If anyone wants them, here are the part numbers:
Rack- 650.632.01.01
Case- 610.088.00.01
The do offer a different rack if you dont have the factory sidecase rails.

For the GIVI top case, I notice that the rack attaches to the factory side racks, but then has a little extra support bracket that goes down around the tail light + license frame, to attach somewhere beneath the rear seat. Supposedly for extra support/rigidity.

The Hepco bracket doesn't do that.

Do you find that the bracket appears or feels strong enough to support the weight of the top case with stuff inside? Does it have a wt limit?

Nice tan seat on the red bike..I've never seen that before....actually I've never even seen a tan seat down under ever.

Thanks for the great pictures. That same set up is on my shopping list and your pictures are the best yet of how the rack attaches to the factory rack side rails. Looks great and should be just the ticket for my needs, too.

Thanks for posting this! I've been eyeing this rack with the 30L topcase from Eurotech. Glad to hear it is an easy install.

Damn..slap a roundel on it and from those pics I couldnt tell the difference.

Speaking of....on the top of the case is a round Hepco Becker emblem that looks like its exactly the same size as the ones on the sidecases. Could probably swap them out. I kind of like the charging Rhino on the Hepco badge though.

Another Question: how robust is the locking system, assuming there is one, of course, and how 'bout the seal, for waterproofing?

I'm planning to get one for my big honking digital SLR, kind of an expensive chunk of plastic and glass, and want to make sure it will be safe when I hop off the bike. Which leads to another question: how easy is it to dismount the top box from the rack, so you can haul it into the motel??

I fitted a top-box mainly to take my camera bag. I wasn't 100% sure of the QD fitting so put a couple of small bolts, with penny washers to tension it down to the rack. ( I would cry if the box came off with my Canon plus a couple of L lenses!)

Iniside, I put a piece of 3" thick foam in the bottom. (I also sculpted the bottom of the foam to add to the shock absorbing action. - so now I can just chuck my camera bag in there knowing that the equipment will be nicely protected.

I assume the red stip on the ack is a reflector. It looks like one anyway. There are two separate locking mechanisms. One to secure it to the bike and one to open the case. The one securing it to the bike is underneath the case so it's not at all noticable. Turn the key, spring the latch and the case comes off. The lock for the case reminds me alot of my friends Givi case. Turn the lock and the latch sort of scissors away from the case. Both use the same key. There is a rubber seal on the bottom half of the case.

If you do not mind me asking how much did it cost and where did you purchase it?
It looks great. I like the looks of it better than the Givi.
do they have a larger case?

It came from http://www.eurotechmotorsports.com The case was $150 and the rack was $111. I believe they offer a 50LT too. Cool thing is all Hepco topcases fit the same rack. Well, i thought it was cool anyway! I think I put the part numbers in the first post.

BUT what is with all the fluid spots under the bike, G*D forbid that came from your bike?????

Yes Ken, Hepco & Becker does make a larger topcase. I have the 45 liter model mounted on the Hepco & Becker rack as shown in the prior post. It holds my XXL full face Shoei, rain gear, a few tools, hat, glasses, etc - plus my riding jacket! I think it would hold two helmets if it was otherwise empty. My topcase if from the "Junior" series (I don't think this means small - must be a european thing). List on this topcase is $245; however, I got mine (new) on ebay for $125. Some closed dealer gave his new stock to an ebay reseller and several of these have been popping up. I rarely use my sidecases now and I less frequently use my tank bag. I like the style of this topcase a little better myself - it's not so "roundish." No stability problems up to a fast cruising speed of 85 or so. Bob

Nope. I had just got done washing it after getting caught in the rain the night before. *knock on wood* No leaks to be found!

Chant, I think the BMW softcase (really marketed for the K12RS) is kinda useless. I separated mine from its mount (that locking plastic plate) and bolted a Givi V46 to it. Looks great, and I can secure/unsecure to/from the bike it with my ignition key. I just didn't like the looks of the Givi plate.

I have done long tours with the Givi (includnig the MOA last year) at up to 100 MPH with no problems. Totally waterproof. I picked the case up from Happy Trails last summer for $215. I use it instead of the BMW cases for my everyday errands, supermarket, work commute, etc

I used the stock mounting for the soft case and attached it as TonyT607 did on his old R1150R, but I noticed he beefed up the silver plastic rear shelf with a Pirate's Lair bracket for mounting the Sargeant made passenger back rest. Not cheap but adds loads of flexibility, and easy changeability. This allows me to use my stock BMW ignition key to easily remove the case for a stock appearing look, and for riding 2 up with the passenger back rest, when needed. In order to mount the Pirates Lair bracket to accomidate the BMW mounting bracket, you must separate the Pirates Lair bracket away from the silver stock shelf by adding some stainless steel washers. It works great, is solid and I have great flexibility. Check out Tony's link to his pictures.
