Upgrading to R1200R? No, thank you.

the new R1200R is faster, stronger, etc.
but
it doesn't make my heart beat faster as the R1150R did 3 years ago..
yes, it's soooo simple.

Me too...the 1150's a classic for sure.
But still can't wait to see a new 1200 and sit on it.

I would agree, that our 1150 is easier on the eyes.

Don't get me wrong, the 1200 is a nice bike for performance, but the look of it I don't think I could live with. Who knows though, things have a tendcy to grow on people.

The R1150R didn't strike me as being that great looking until I saw one in person. Then it was love at first sight.
I like the way the R1200R looks in pictures. I'll reserve final judgment until I see one up close and personal, which means a test ride.
Honestly, if this thing has 28% more power and 25% less weight, we're looking at a serious boost in performance. Quarter mile figures should easily be in the mid-11 second range. Having test ridden the R1200GS, I know the transmission will be a lot smoother. If the windshield options are good for touring, I'm definitely considering this as a viable next purchase for a bike. If not, I'll probably get the K1200GT.
Either way you cut it, BMW is serving up some tasty options.

I just wish they'd put a taller person on the design team so they would quit putting the footpegs up so high. The R1100R had the best ergos of the series by a big margin. All of the tricks that I pulled to get lower pegs + cornering clearance on my R1150R would not work on the R1200R because the donor GS footpeg brackets on the R1200GS are weld-on instead of bolt-on. I guess you could weld to the frame, I've done that before but it shouldn't be necessary.
Oh well, it's academic to me anyway as I only buy a new BMW every 12-17 years. My 2004 should do me until I am 70 years old. My father rode until he was 79 so maybe I can get another beemer in 2021 or so.

taller person? A short person (<5'7") can't ride most of the model line! I tip toe my R, and the GS is out of the question!

...maybe I love my R1150R just too much.
I was riding today and it started raining..I liked the way my knees stayed dry..tucked in behind the oil coolers..

This site has a lot of the same sentiments (from R1100R owners) when the R1150R first hit the web, too. I think they'll sell more 1200s than 1150s, regardless of $$.
I like it. I like the 1150, but I like the 1200 for what it is, not what it looks like - but that's just me.

OK, well maybe they need an old arthritic person to design them. I am old, arthritic, and 6'-2" and the knee bend is a killer on a stock R1150R or R1150RS for me. More relaxred ergo's would make the bike better for long rides for lots of people. If my kneees get any worse, I may be on a Suzuki Bergman 650 (with a paper bag over my helmet). - Lee

I'm in trouble........I didn't care for it at first but with every passing day it is growing on me. I think about it alot, wonder what it starts like, what it sounds like, what it feels like when I click into 1st, how does it go stop and turn? I feel dirty, like I'm cheating on my roadster. Tell me it's just a crush.......after 6 enjoyable seasons and 32k miles I still love my ole girl, but a younger more fit model turns me on. Should I sneek away for a rendezvous or just put it out of my mind and enjoy the older, heavier, less athletic model..................I'm in trouble.
not that ugly.... not really that different from the 1150...

It looks GERIATRIC! Too bland.... Dang... I would rather have underseat or short pipe (ie - moto gp bikes and new yamaha r6) and better styling. Are they trying to sell to white haired people with bland Mercedes!?
Tooo freaking Boring! BUT..... nice specs!
Here's what they should do:
Powdercoat rims, rocker-cover, fork, headlight's bracket and rack to flat black! Put in nice ohlins steering damper. Powdercoat engine black. Ferro'ized the gas tank and rear body panel and put on stripes (just like the yellow Ferro R1150R). It doesn't have to be yellow, they could make it like graphite black like Rockster and have the frame red like ducati... NO? Heh!
I would buy that ... a bike with personality!!!! Hell, the K1200R got a pit bull personality alright!

I too have not taken to the new 1200, or for that matter the new RT (as I ride the old RT).
I Still long for the R1150R or even an old R850R just to go to work and back.....is that strange?

I reserve judgment on the R1200R until I see one in person. But here is my opinion on the styling of the new vs. old for the following:
I like the R1200GS better than the R1150GS.
I like the R1150RT better than the R1200RT.
I like the old K1200GT better than the new K1200GT, but it's close.
I like the R1100S better than the R1200S.
Hmmm. I guess I generally like the old styling better than the new.
But no matter. I'm concerned about the way a bike performs more than the way it looks.
