Half way into trip

Hi all,
I mentioned a couple months ago that my wife and I are riding across Canada. Thought I'd pop in with a few tech tidbits re: the R

Left May 21 from Toronto. Today we are ~4700 km into our trip, and are in North Sydney Nova Scotia. Tomorrow we take the ferry to Newfoundland.

So....after 4700 km, 2-up, fair size load:
Bike is running fantastic! Got used to the weight in about 3 days.
Burned a bit of oil, topped up with ~200 ml at the 3500 km mark.
Michelin Pilot Roads (1300 km on them when we left) are performing well. Have not lost any pressure (R42/F37 psi). Due to the type of riding (cruise @ ~90 km/h most of the time - and daily average is >300 km) the tires are showing signs of squaring off - expected I guess, but stickyness is good in the curves.

Choke lever sticks a little - won't return without force. Didn't realize this until I started getting poorer milage. My fuel light comes on between 275 - 280 km. For 2 days it came on around 255. Then I realized what's happening. Don't use the choke now. Will get it replaced upon our return.

This bike can do it all (just about). We have ridden on gravel, dirt and muck (total so far about 100 kms, and another 800 km of gravel to cover in Labrador (Trans Lab Hwy) and some of Quebec (Hwy 389).

For those of you planning a long trip, this bike will do it. Very well!!

We have limited internet access and I can't promise to check this board too often while travelling. I'll post a report once we are back in August.

In the mean time, if anyone is interested, we post to our live-journal at http://www.motorcycle-overland.com (this is easier for us, as we belong to many boards and can't get to all of them most of the time).

Cheers,
- Lorne

Thanks for the update...take heaps of pics..and watch out for bears.. :D

btw...that choke lever is not a choke lever..it's just a fast idle and should not effect fuel ecconamy while riding..try spraying it with some lube.

Good luck in your trip and ride safe.
