Got hit today, how do I repair a scrached cylinder cover ?

I was hit today by a young lady who made a left turn while I was on her left side without looking !! The consept of first look then turn was beyond her obvious mental capacity... (Thank god for ABS and good reflexes)

The damage: a scrached cylinder cover, a not too scrached sparkplug cable guard, a totaled cylinder guard and minor brusing on my right leg from hitting the cilinder through momentum

The two plastic guards I'll change, they cost about 60 euro together, but the cylinder cover is 200+ euro which I'm not about to spend.

Is there a way to smooth out the scratches on the cover ??
What's the best way to get the car paint off the cover ??

I'd prolly repair the damage, but that's me and I'm guessing that's you too!

Scratches in paint are difficult. Getting car paint off is easy, T-Cut or fine metal polish will shift it.

Here in the US we would lay on the ground till the cops arrive and call our lawyers. Then we would get a new bike. Well, some would.

I managed to clean the car paint of the cylinder cover, the damage is not that bad, you really need to pay attention to spot it these magnesium covers are really tough...
The cylinder guard took all the impact force, and when I think my leg was just cm away... ouch just the though hurts...

In these parts the insurance scheme is not all that reliable, especially when trying to prove right of way ! even if you prove right of way, you end up getting your money 6-12 months later !

Anyway, no bones os skin broke, damage was affortable, all is well...

Washing up liquid and non scratch scouring pads work wonders on removing paint from painted panels and parts without removing the original paint. Just don't let the wife see how good you are with these tools,

Last time I checked the price of the covers was simular to the gards. Mind that was a couple of bikes ago.

I bought a Rockster with a small scratch on one of the heads. I took the heads in today to have them powder coated satin Black, instead of the blue colour. Total cost for both heads £30. I get them back Friday.

While shopping for a cylinder guard today, I talked to the mechanic in the dealership, he said they repair cylinder covers easy !! I didn't ask how much this easy would cost, but I suppose it'll be cheaper than having the cover replaced...

Anyway, my baby looks great again, scratches on cover are unnoticeable !!!
