i got some from mot-tchniques for 40$ and love them. look like oem! not sure how much the verholens are, but i love the verholen mini tank bag i have.

I've been reluctant to get bar backs due to the finish not matching but those really look like a dead on match to the OEM finish. Just curious, which size do you have on your bike?

I fitted a set a few years ago. You are correct in that the finish is superb, & frankly they look like a BMW OE part. For me, they have put the handlebars just where I want them, making the riding position more comfortable, so for me they did the job.

I also have the Moto-Techniques bar-backs... they don't look quite as elegant as the Verholens but they do the same job, and don't look bad at all.

When I added my Sargent seat, that unfortunately undid all the benefit from the bar-backs by raising my seat height by an inch.

Getting ready to install my new Wunderlich Touring Comfort handlbars... I'll give you a full report after I get it done.

DrEvil: I just ordered the verholen mini bag as I don't want to clutter up the tank area with a big tank bag. I'll find out soon enough how much it holds but just wondering what you can squeeze into the mini bag. Do you use the clear "map" window for anything? Too small for a decent map.

I have had those very same bar backs since Sept. '01.
I'm very happy with them but then I like a more upright position when I ride.
I bought mine at A&S but that was four and a half years ago. You can try their web site or I think Santa Cruz BMW sells them too.

I'm wondering if anyone has tips on getting barbacks to work on 1150R without having to replace brake/clutch lines. I tried to mount the Moto-Techniques bbs (the longer ones) and my brake line just wasn't long enough. I assume I would have the same problem with the Verholen.

Anyone have a similar experience? A fix?

I had the Verholens on my R and they were great, made all the difference in the world for me.

Zero modifications necessary, and it was a 5 minute install. It goes much easier if you have a helper. Have him/her simply hold the bars in a level position as you loosen and remove them from the OE clamps. I read something (probably here somehere) that if you let them tilt too much air might get into your hydraulic lines....don't know if true but I guess it makes sense.

DK, I have the longer ones and they are perfect. i wouldn't waste my time with the shorter ones as they do almost nothing. i asked the same question before i bought also though!

munch, i have never used the map window as i have one on my larger bag which i would use if i was touring. also i am getting a gps mount for this bike. Bag is big enough to hold your glock, per the priate's website! :-)
i find it easily holds wallet, keys, etc. Quick word of advice for anyone getting the small verholen bag: MAKE SURE TO UNCLIP FROM THE INSIDE WHEN REMOVING!!! i popped it on and forget when taking it off and seperated the button clip on one side but was luckily able to get it back in. also you will notice the magnets are nice and strong on the bag anyway making for a nice secure fit.

apaul. i put on the moto's on my rock. all you have to do is cut the plastic tiestrap on the lines to allow some play and then reclip if neccessary after installation. no big deal, but obviously be careful when snipping the ties!

I also have the Verholens and second what others have said. They look factory. Perfect fit and finish. The only issue I've noted is that sometimes on a tight parking lot left turn the horn button will contact my BMW brand tank bag. It is an attention-getter for sure.
My 2004 ABS model did not require relocating the brake line. I did snip a zip-ty to allow more slack. If things are still too tight you can re-route the brake and throttle lines outside of the headlight bracket pretty easily.

Are Verholen barbacks for the 1150R still being sold in the US? Dealer names will be greatly appreciated.

i was also amazed at how stock the moto-techs were. the set of barbacks i got at bob's were promptly returned after i realized i couldn't bear to put those crappy looking things on my bike no matter how much they helped!

A&S has them... however, for the price they should be made of gold...
