I read an advance notice sent to BMW dealerships today outlining a worldwide ABS recall for about 8 models of BMW bikes. This is a definite, not a maybe.

The K1200R and S are among the affected. In the case of the R, a complete replacement of the front brake and rotor are also required.

Expect to hear officially as consumers in the next couple of weeks.

That is all I know at the moment, but I saw the notice with my own eyes.

Just to add a to your first posting as there is very little info out there unless you dig for it

The K1200R and S are among the affected. In the case of the R, a complete replacement of the front brake and rotor are also required. on certain chassis numbers, (could be from 4mm to 5mm disks)

Although I was not now nearly two weeks and no notice,and did meet a blank wall on phoning service, my sales man friend is trying to get it sorted quickly,


A problem banjo bolt so a re bleed test is needed, after fitting

Downloads for CIP for the bottom end (stuttering in low revs) and internal

software for counter valve clearances.

That is all I know at the moment, I will post more on return from the dealers this morning or when I get the bike back.

Does anyone have access to the V6 update on paper for the 12R thanks for that DJ

OF course don't go to your dealer expecting that to be done straight away, as they haven't even been given the parts yet....

Boy, I bet BMW dealers are happy. With compensation from BMW, the dealers have a guaranteed healthy blip in business for several months!

This is why I generally wait a couple years before buying a new model. Although in this situation, you guys are getting new pads and rotors, which is worth a few hundred. Hmmm. At least BMW compensates you guys for being Alpha testers.

Received a call from my service tech about this. Awaiting parts for the rotor upgrade/replacement; skip the squeaky bushing part. August expected.

Got the new rotors and banjo bolt fitted as well as the V6 software update it really does seem to do the job on smoothing out the lower end. Due for several hundred miles test this weekend.

Do a report about both the rotors and the software and have a great ride!

Thank you for that Mike, in the few miles I have done so far it is a totally different bike, at lower revs and slow speeds ie traffic and town, just finished putting a new back rubber band on for the forthcoming run (Starts Sunday ends Monday generally at a "cough cough" brisk pace) will let you know on my return how the bike performed.

My K12R is booked in to my Dealer in Scotland to have this recall caried out next Tuesday 13 June 2006. Cant say I have had any bother with it but I will post the results and what has been done next week..........

Only got to cover 686 kliks over the last two days since I got the update done and also the brakes,; as for the software update quite simply put ..... it is a different bike (for the better) it runs smoother and did not flinch once doing town riding or slow in traffic not like before where it was like a bucking bronco unless you clutched until you had a cramp in your left hand.
That is all gone even below the 1000 mark not a snort just perfect.

The brake rotors; again they work;; they worked previously and now they feel more responsive they stop the beast easier and with less effort. If that is possible,,,, these are my opinions I have been riding the K since last October it really does seem to have gotten better with the work done.

Make sure you get yours done now and do not wait until you have to get the service to push for it to be done.
