Tank Protection

Weather here in New England has finally broken, and am riding all over on my"new to me" 2002 R1150. I have a minor problem I am looking for help to remedy. When I am riding with my favorite leather jacket on, the position I am most comfortable in causes the edge of my leather, where zipper is located, to rub against my tank at the base where it meets the seat. It is scratching the paint, and before I rub out the scratches, I would like to have a remedy in mind so I only have to buff out the scratches once. Could I get some suggestions.

Just go to any motorcycle shop and they should have a few to choose from.
I got mine from an Autobarn auto shop...it's a thin gel type pad about 6"x4" (maybe a little bigger) that sticks without glue..it's designed to stick on your car dash and you can sit your mobile phone on it and it won't slide around...cost about $5...and its texture matches the seat.
I could post a pic if you like....you could even make yourself one using that contact plastic that you use for books.

Those things are called tank pads here in Old England!
Just clean the tank with some alcohol based cleaner and gently heat both the tank and the pad with hair dryer before applying.
Some tank pads come as kit with little knee pads, for extra grip when cornering.
Also - get yourself BagLux tank cover.

Got mine at good old walmart just bumming around the auto dept. These things are cool!! Gotta get a couple more for the car and now maybe one for the bike!!!

Me, being of the larger belly variety, also suffered from this tank scratching.
I got the CSS Tank protector set from BMW Santa Cruz, not sure where to get them internationally.

Nice look, $30 USD, the middle one in the picture goes where the tank meets your seat.

A cheap solution is contact paper . I like the clear .It gives the color a matt look .

If your black 02 was from a-j's & its got extra tail lights & driving lights @ about 40k mi. it's my old bike & I've go a mag knight tank protecter fer free!!
