Early Bluebonnet Run

I decided to go for a ride yesterday and find some bluebonnets blooming. Since we've had so little rain this year, they are sparse. Unknowingly, the road I chose was also the road travelled by hundreds of antique shoppers headed to a bi-annual market day. The roads were crowded and the wind was howling. There was no way I could shoot pics while driving in that wind, and hardly any safe place to pull over since cars were steadily coming by on the twisty, hilly roads. However, I did manage to find a cut off road for this picture early in the trip. Then someone else who was doing the same thing offered to take a picture for me with my bike. So I handed her the camera. As she was gettting ready to take a picture, a bee went down her jacket and the next thing I know, she has dropped my camera in a frenzy to get the bee out. I'm sorry she was stung - but my camera was ruined! It was a Nikon small digital, but I had just bought it 10 days ago for $200 and specifically for taking pictures while riding. She, of course apologized, but was so anxious about whether or not she would have an allergic reaction to the bee sting, that she just left. The camera won't work at all. The lens is stuck and whenever I turn it on, it just says lens error. There's no way I can take it back to Circuit City because it has obviously been dropped - evidenced by the small dent on the side of the lens.

So I got one picture and a broken camera from my trip yesterday. Sadly, there were better pictures to be taken down the road - with barns and horses and longhorns all in fields of blue bonnets, indian paintbrushes, and buttercups. DANG! I'm glad it wasn't my Rebel XT!

Nice pic but geees...what a bugger about your camera.

I've asked the odd person to do the same and once or twice they've almost dropped mine also.

One guy did a little juggle as he tried to catch it..but did catch it..lucky for me.

I have a little tri pod now..the type with bendy legs..that cost less than $5.

The bike looks great..the white indicator lenses look nice...good job.

Bummer about the camera...a bee sting...geez...how unlikely is that?

Beautiful picture of an RR wearing its best color.

That looks like a photo out of a brochure! Nice picture. Too bad about the camera. You may look into sending it back to Nikon for a repair. I think they charge a flat rate fee for all repairs but I may be wrong. I have an older Nikon digital and it stopped working on me (still under warranty) so i sent it back. A few weeks later I had it back (warranty repair) but I got the impresion that it would've been a flat rate type of deal. Good luck. And get another camera for more pictures!

Well your camera certainly went out with a bang! Nice shot!

You might as well send it to Nikon for an attempted repair. All they can do is say no.

BTW, nice bike too. Like the tan seat. I didn't think they sold those on this side of the pond.

Thanks for the kind words about the picture and the bike. This was the first bike I've ever seen with the tan seat. It is also not a stock R1150R color. It's not the titanium silver - it's granite grey that they use on some of the other bikes. The uniqueness is what drew me to it. People have remarked that it looks very European.

I decided to try to fix the camera myself. Risky, but I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained. And, voila, I've got it working again. I unscrewed some things, looked around and tried to manuever things that looked out of place. Then put it all back together hoping for the best. When I put the battery back in, it came on by itself and gave the same Lens Errror message, but when I tried to turn it off this time, the lens finally moved. Turning it back on is when I realized I got it fixed. So I took a picture of my new clear indicator lenses that I installed the night before the camera was broken since I hadn't taken a picture of them yet. Here they are - taken with the fixed camera.

Kristi,

Is that the Givi A760 ?

Actually, I think it is the A750. It says Roadstar under the name GIVI and this is what it looks like up close. I bought the bike new from the dealer and it already had the GIVI on it, so I can't' tell you for sure which one it is, but this is my best guess. Here is a link to what I think it is with a pic as well. But if you look at the second link, it looks like that one too (at Twisted Throttle) and they call it the Airstar. If you read the paragraph at Twisted Throttle they say the Airstar is the same as the A750, but comes with R1150R parts. Hope this helps.

EDITED: FOUND THIS SITE at RL Motorcycles THAT OFFERS MORE THAN ONE COLOR - and they say they are on sale. http://rlmotorcycles.com/home/Accessori ... creens.htm

Thanks, Kristi.

The A760 is 26" wide, probably the widest screen they make. Could be the A750 looks better in person though. I was thinking of buying one of the Givi screens rather then having a custom shield made for my Fallert. It's too short and the airflow hits me right in the chest. I was interested in the A760 thinking it would give me the most protection from the elements.
Looking at your installation and the other pictures, did they drill the fairing and install it with the BMW windshield mounts ? The four mounts look to be in about the right spots. It would be nice to just drop the new screen on those BMW mounts.

It looks as though the windscreen is mounted to the same place the headlamp is mounted. The bracket it a single arm that splits within two inches of the screen and attaches at two points on the screen. Hope this helps.

I see the arm now in your first picture. It looks like it mounts to the triple tree just like the upper mount on the touring screen.
