Hi,

I finally had time for a ride today. Unfortunately, after a couple of miles, I noticed that the red warning light was staying on. I headed straight back home and hauled out the owners manual.

The manual indicated that the light identifies an oil pressure problem and to check the oiil level. The oil level was fine and I couldn't find any troubleshooting ideas in the manual. The only oher suggestion was to call lthe dealer - which I will do on Monday.

The bike is a 2003 R1150R with 400 some miles and has been sitting in the garage since November. Didn't get much riding in before winter set in. Does the oil get strange when the bike sits and possibly cause this problem?

Any idea of what iis goinig on or how to troubleshoot what is going on appreciated.

Are you talking about the red oil pressure light?

Could be the oil pressure sender switch is stuck "on". If you know you have oil, and you already rode it with the light on...and it didn't start to "CLANK CLANK, CLANK then I'd guess the switch.

Take the connector of the end of the switch and see if the light goes out. Then touch the connector to the frame and see if it comes on. The switch is only about $12. That may be it.

The light that stays on has a triangle and exclamation mark on it and is to the left of the '"ABS Failure" light.

Thats not the oil pressure.
Thats the integral ABS warning light telling you there's a fault somewhere. Or if the brake light or tail light is inoperative.

Check your brake and tail lights.

a belated thank you.

it was the tail light I had installed a bulb with a brake "flasher" function built into the base of the bulb - from a previous bike. guess the abs system thought the bulb was burnt out when it flashed. replaced it with a led flashing brake unit built to deal with the needs of the abs system and all is well
