Bike Rental in Australia...DJ, you out there?

I may be in Australia for two weeks in April and can think of no better way to see some of the country than on a bike (preferably an 1150R). Do any of our Aussie brothers have recommendations on bike rentals and places to go. I will be in Melbourne one week, and Sydney another...working during the week, but playing on the weekends. All advice appreciated!!!

Waa-Hoo!!...that's great...I'll start planing a ride for us to do...
I'll suss out the bike rental for you...I'm not sure about BMW Roadsters...I know a place that has 1150 GS's to rent..that might be as close as you'll get.
I'm happy to show you around while you're in town..send me a PM and I'll give you my details...Autumn in Melbourne is beautiful.
In early April we have the Formula one's in town..and the track is around a lake right near the middle of the city...you can't miss that.
You will need to be careful when looking for traffic...look right when crossing the road etc..have you ever ridden on the other side of the road before?
One good thing is that 75 of your cents will buy you one Aussie dollar...
...btw our notes are plastic not paper like yours..have you seen them?

DJ...thanks for the reply! I have been to two formula one races and loved it. I'll let you know as soon as I know the exact dates of travel. Regarding the kind of bike, I think a GS might be fun...ride something a bit different. Was surfing some sites and also thinking about that Yamaha FJR1300...know a guy here that has one and he loves it.

That's the place to get a hire bike. It's on the periphery of the cbd, and very accessible. I'm guessing you'll be staying somewhere in the vicinity.
The other place, where you can get a FJR1300, is Clipstone's, but is in the outer eastern suburbs. You'd waste hours just getting to and fro.
If you're in Melbourne and interested in a decent day ride, then the Great Ocean Road is mandatory. You head to Apollo Bay, follow the coast to Port Campbell, then back up towards Melbourne, either via the Otway Ranges or the hwy.
I know what I'd do! I hope my bike is back on the road.

What about completing the triangle of Great Ocean Road to Warrnambool then up to the Grampians and back to Melbourne through Ballarat? Wonderful ride and a
full riding day.

Hmmm - April is a bad time for me as I head off on my round Aus trip early May, but maybe I can assist with a guided tour either North of Sydney up Bucketts Way, Thunderbolts Way, the Oxley Highway and Waterfall Way. Or South around Kangaroo Valley, Jambaroo Mountain and Macquarie Pass. Let me know.

Juz a thot ... would it be cheaper to buy a bike for touring for say 2 weeks, and then sell the bike?

Meow....if you were going to rent for two weeks what you say would be the way to go for sure..but gagator was only going to have the week-end free to ride so renting would be a better choice.

Probably, but the logistics of the resale might cause a problem. It'd depend on how long you could wait around...
