I have never owned a bike, but I have been driving a little, last one was a BMW Montauk 1200 that I borrowed from a Beamer dealer for a weekend and did 1700 km on it, she was not too happy when I returned it on Monday morning, she mumbled something about handling the new bike over to the mechanics for service or something.
Anyway, the thing is that I like to buy a motorcycle that you don't have to fiddle around with to much but runs without any mechanicle complications, is dependable and a bit of fun. The Beamer dealer (replacing the one who lets people borrow bikes for long weekends) said that I am too young (at 43 you don't hear that very often nowadays) to buy a cruiser but suggested a Rockster instead as a bit more fun bike.
So not knowing anything but what the dealer told me and what I have read here, the rockster looks like a nice bike and should suit my needs.
One thing though, I am working from home, so I don't have to many places to transport myself daily on my bike and I was wondering if it is possible to carry a golf bag on the back while riding, because since I play a couple of times a week during the summer, that would make me get out more on the bike.
Any comments on this (or other) subject?

heh interesting idea, but I think it may be not safe in case of crash.... AFAIK golf equipment is pretty heavy, isn't it ?

Golf clubs in a bag - that may upset handling due to weight distribution (if heavy and placed too far back on the luggage plate) not to mention that it maybe wide.

I think I saw some adverts for folding clubs or something ......

I was thinking - can I put a kite surf board on a bike - obviously not .....

See if you can rig up a carry system so that a THIN golf bag is carried upright beside the pannier rail - that might work.

Have you ever considered to buy a HP2 and ride from hole to hole swinging the golf club polo way?

Besides the golfbag factor, do you agree that the Rockster is a suitable bike for a novice of my limited experience and lack of knowledge of mechanical motor parts?

The r1150r is a good solid bike. It has not got so much power to catch you out and has very good breaks with ABS to stop with. Take it easy and you should be fine. Get head gards and paner rails. They stop scratches and help when picking it up.

Golf is a good walk spoilt but I have seen a few custom made holders on the web which seem to work well. The weight is not so much that would upset the bike, just don't try and ride with them on your back.

I must warn you that by owning a Rockster, you may begin to give up your other hobbies. Don't be surprise if you'd rather be riding than playing golf. But if you still want to play golf, I'm sure that it's very possible to fabricate a holder for your golf bag.
