Windmill Ride

Took a quick ride up in the hills above my neighborhood. It's an area mostly known for it's numerous windmills.
I tried mounting a small digital camera on my bike for those quick "oh sh*t, where's my camera?" moments I seem to have all too often when riding and my camera is safely tucked in a bag or pocket. I attached the camera to one of those plastic mini-tripods - this one has a velcro strap that allowed me to wrap it around my left mirror stem.
Worked great. As I was heading back home, I ran into this cattle drive crossing the road. Without fumbling for my camera, all I had to do was push the button.
No more "Oh sh*t!" moments.

Oh, I've already had my share of those...drowned 2 Canon cameras in the past - one, an early digital model (1998 Canon EOS D-2000) costing $13,000.
Fortunately they belonged to my employer.

Great idea...I've been planning to do that with my camera in movie mode....I just need to buy a big 1G card first...and then work out how to post it..

now that tri-pod idea is a good one, will see if I can mount my DVD Camcorder the same way for when we do our Darwin - Perth - Adelaide - Darwin trip this christmas and look at adding a piece of clear perspex in front of the Camcorder

Love to ride in that area Michael (when its dry! -- inside joke)...
...Nearby Patterson Pass is a nice close ride too...as I am sure you are also familiar...
...After kicking this flu bug hope to see ya out there again!

No one ever wrote anything about the Jan 7th ride... I assumed from your joke that it rained? Inquring minds want to know...

Toner,
We rode - four of us that is. Ed K, myself, orbea54 (Kevin) and his friend Milo. It was overcast but no rain. Mines Road was wet all the way to the Hamilton summit although Ed reported that his trip back home on Mines was dry. We had a good, cautious ride. Sorry, no photos. I brought my camera but never took it out of the topcase...not much of a photog am I?
Anyway, we'll have to do another ride soon. It will be good to meet you and other bay area riders.
Kevin did post a quick write up :
My buddy Milo on his Kawi 650 Dual Sport and I left the Peninsula under sunny skies at 7:30am, wet roads and zoomed to Livermore in 45 minutes. It was very secnic crossing the San Mateo Bridge as there was no wind, Bay was flat as a pancake the the rising sun beams coming through the clouds was a sight. As we pulled into the first gas station in Livermore, Ed from Pleasanton rolled up at the same time to top off.
We met Michael from Livermore at Starbucks. Grabbed som Java, made some intoductions then around 9:00am took off for the ride. The roads were pretty wet the whole way but a very fun road. Road past some wild turkeys and a cow in the middle of the road and a small 2 inch creek crossing. When we made it to the summit of Lick, we hung out for about a half hour inside the observatory and chatted inside at it was very cool outside.
Ed went back to Livermore in Mines Road and Michael, Milo and myself headed down into San Jose. After getting into San Jose, Michael departed and Milo and I headed South on 101 to Highway 152 towards Watsonville. We then took some back roads (Uvas Road) back to San Jose and then up to the top of Mount Uminum where one of the Bay Area Doppler Radar is located. After that we headed down to Highway 85 and home up Highway 280 to the North Peninsula. 240 miles for the day.

Thanks, Michael... Yesterday I did a recording up at Skywalker Ranch in Marin and I cursed myself for not taking the Rockster, as we were done by 3:30 and I had some time to kill before I had to be back in the city... And, of course, it was an absolutely beautiful afternoon... I drove down the coast through Nicasio, Pt. Reyes and Stinson anyway - wishing I was riding the whole way....

It was great to meet Michael, Kevin and Milo (a devil on the wet curves in that Kaw 650!)...
And yes, the road was dry -- yeeehhhaaa -- on the way back.
We gotta do it again...but I guess not this weekend with the current forecast!
