DJ,
Do you know anyone who has a 'helmet cam'? Any info on how to do this would be of interest. It just looks so cool and would be a heck of a way to document a trip.

How do these things interface to a digital camera? I couldn't find this on the website..do they use I/Link (firewire), or does the CCD put out a composite video signal? I have a 6 year old Sony digital camera that I'd like to use as a recording device if it will interface.

At our last Motorcycle expo there was a few stands with helmet cams...I will try and find the info...most plug into a camera.
The new Panasonic camera comes with it's own little remote lipstick type camera and head band..I can't remember which model it is.
I posted about it (the new Panasonic camera) a few months ago and with motorcycle footage...but can't find it now.

Did a search, found this thread, thought I would add this link, which answers a lot of questions. I just bought a MiniDV camera hoping to preserve some of the thrill of the ride on tape. When I get it all workin' you all will be some of the first to know about it.
This website is about the best I've found and has simple explanation of "How it Works." Also links to some great racing videos !!

Have been thinking about doing this.... it would be a good way to explain to my kids and grandkids why I took up riding again 15 years ago after a long time off.

All the consumer-level helmet cam setups will use the standard composite signal to input analog camera video to the digital recording medium, which can be tape, disc, hard drive or pure memory.
For an inexpensive setup, Samsung makes a 'sports' setup which is a small, decent quality video cam with a removeable lipstick camera, linked to the body with a special connection carrying analog video and power. Records directly to SD cards.

There's other helmet cams, a google search will show many.
The stuff is pretty cheap too, and any decent setup (the better ones use a well-known Sony lipstick camera) can make really good quality videos.
I plan on getting a super-compact camcorder myself, I just haven't decided which medium makes most sense, disc, tape, or memory.
