Windshields - sport or touring?

I bought the R 1150 R 2001 through internett in August 2005.
On the Norwegian market the 1150 is standard equipped with steering heaters (?), ABS brakes, sports windshield and luggage carrier.
I got the "touring windshield" from the previous owner as extra but have not tried it.
I find the the sports windshield nicer but keep asking myself if I should change to the touring to get more wind and rain protection?

Bjorn, I've used both and other than throwing the air up-and-over about 8 inches higher and some added protection for the forearms, it's essentially the same except for looks.....Okay, so it IS different!
I think Vann actually changes his out every season to give him more clean air flow in the summer.
They use the same hardware so it's real easy to switch them.

Thanks - Boxer.
It's still winter and dark here. I will not be on the roads before beginning of April.

I've had both and I prefer the sport shield over the touring shield; my helmet is in clean air rather than dirty air. I've done several 500+ mile days with the sport shield too -- no worries at all.

Boxer - I actually change between the Sport shield for winter and the flyscreen for summer. Different hardware.
Yeah, I know, I do things the hard way!

What about 3rd party windshields? Are there any that are better than the BMW windshields? I have the touring windshield on my 2004 R1150R and I am not particularly impressed with it. I get a ton of wind noise and buffeting especially on the highway.

Givi makes a nice looking sport shield for the R1150.

I am currently trying the BMW High Windshield and will install some Saeng edging tonight, which should help. Without it, I would have to go back to the Touring Shield and Laminar Lip. Fugly, but very effective at elinimating noise and buffeting.

I have both the touring and the sport shields, and both work good, but I am always looking for something better. Dallara had a post about how he liked the BMW 380mm high windshield. I prefer the sport shield, but the touring does cut down more of the cold air iin the winter.
Most people end up going smaller on their windshields in order to reduce the noise/turbulence. Some have gone to the parabellum (barn door) windshields and are happy. It seems like many have different opinions about the windshields, because everybody has a different build and expectation of what they want the screen to do.
I want to hear from someone who has the CeeBailey's sport shield. Anyone?

Jeff,
I have the CEE Bailey Sport Shield and like it just fine. It is a good compromise of protection, looks, noise, and comfort. I also have the BMW touring shield that I re-installed for the winter (such as it is here on the left coast). The sport shield is quieter, the touring screen protects more. A lot of how you perceive the screen depends on your physique, how the bike is set up, and what you are used to: I'm 5'9", 32" inseam, and have the tall seat and standard bars on my bike. Before the R with touring screen my main ride was an R90/6 with an "S" fairing, so the touring screen seems like a full fairing.

I sawed the top 7" off the BMW touring shield. Works better actually, doesn't bounce, ever, from turbulance.

I prefer the Cee Bailey touring shield to the original profile the BMW touring shield had. I swap the shields out basically depending on the temperatures, usually changing it a couple times a year.

I have both the BMW touring windshield big with plenty of protection, some helmet noise and the Cee Baileys sport good protection, looks, and less noise. Other than cold weather I would use the Cee Bailey all year.

Vario makes a screen for the R1150R that can be adjusted up and down plus or minus 2 inches (Wunderlich?)

I just installed the AeroFlow sport screen last week and think it is just right for me.
I'm a short 5'6" and the sport screen throws the air just over my helmet.
there is hardly any air behind the screen and I think it is much quieter than the BMW sport screen.

Actually, the Aeroflow sport screen is what I've been using since the weather got cooler...I switch to an OEM sport screen for the hot weather.
