Rider Seat Position in relation to tank

Post by phreakanature »

Hi guys,

New here. Just took delivery of my 05 R1150R on Wednesday. I have only one concern. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I ordered the bike with the high seat. The seat height is perfect, where it sits in relation to the tank seems off. There is a 3/4" gap between the seat and the tank. I have removed the seat, and double checked to ensure it was installed on the tabs on either side of the tank correctly, and is sitting correctly everywhere else. This looks terrible, and feels odd where the seat comes to the points near the thigh area on the side of the tank. these are jutted out away from the tank enough that they then dig into my legs. Is there a way of adjusting where the seat sits? Are the two 'roller' shape positioning rubbers under the seat adjustable? Any help is appreciated.

In addition to the two underseat tabs and the rear prongs, there are two side tabs that engage a plastic cutout on the seat and pull my seat closer to the tank. It is possible that when the tall seat is installed, the sides flare out and miss these tabs. Maybe.

Good luck.

And welcome to the Roadster world. I think you made an outstanding choice, boith in an '05 R1150R and in coming to this board.

Good user name also.

Side Tabs

Post by phreakanature »

Thanks for the reply. Yes as I indicated in my original post, maybe no clearly, I have ensured that the side tank tabs are in fact hooked into their respective slots. It's almost as though this seat was not formed properly. I will have to take a photo and post it for opinions.

I would talk to the dealer (assuming you bought it from a dealer) and have them correct the problem.

Your "space" may be greater than mine was...No way to tell...But, I was amazed also when I purchased a higher seat than stock and there seemed to be this HUGE space between the seat and tank.

Solution: Get on and ride like hell! You'll soon forget about it.
