hi all
i am thinking of purchasing the k1200r and was wondering, is there a 2006/07 model comming out? and also how do rate these bikes as far as performance, comfort, fuel comsumption etc. Would be especially interested in hearing from australian owners but all feedback would be appreciated.

The initial release of the K1200R is an '06 in the U.S. but I am unclear how it is rated in AUS or EUR.
The '07, that'd be Apr-Sep for the U.S. if significant model changes occur (DOT rules) has no such changes rumored. Apparently software updates do occur to both the K-S and K-R at service intervals. Mostly minor mapping adaptations.
Performance- more than I can use in Virginia. Feels very smooth and buttery throughout the range in any gear.
Handling- something about that Duolever is different. Very stable and almost without feedback on the front. It's a different feedback and requires thousands of miles of mindless twisty roads to get it!
Comfort- mine is non-ESA. Stock shocks and springs on the stiff to normal side. I like that. Seat is fine; reach is fine; pegs are fine. I am 5'6" with 33" sleeve; 30" inseam.
Efficiency- 26-36 mpg Don't know the Aussie conversion. Sorry.
Safety- good feel on my non-ABS, non-linked, non servo assisted brakes.
If you like the idea, then you will like the bike.

I second what camfarm said above. Fun factor is off the scale. Front brakes are very good ( I also have non-abs, non-linked, non-servo assist) but the rear brake is all but non-existant. Now that the bike has been out there for awhile there are some good deals to be had in the pre-owned market. Bikes that are loaded with options and very, very low mileage can be had for a hefty discount from new price. Don't know what the market is like "down under", but here in the States I would recommend buying from the pre-owned market if at all possible in order to save some BIG bucks!
Rear Brake

Picked up a tidbit that the rear brake control can be micro adjusted to get a bit of feel in the pedal- there's a brake there, it's just a hard push.

Yes there is a 2006 K12R out, main diff is instrumentations
