Here I am at my favorite bar (this board), drinking my favorite beer still available: an Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel.

What are you guys drinking?

My favorite brand of beer is 'Cold'. I was once a member of the 'beer of the month' club and while it was nice to taste all of the odd stuff (potato, wheat, extra bitter, stawberry, etc...), I found that I am sort of plain sort of guy and you can generally find my favorite brand (Cold) in every watering hole.

Tonight it was Becks. I have some homemade meade, Bass, Columbus Nut Brown Ale and Belhaven in the fridge and some 3-year-old Alaskan Smoked Porter aging in the basement.

Know where I can find Innis and Gunn?

I rarely drink at home unless I have guests.

At an actual bar though, I tend to try the local flavors. Some of my favorites...

In mainland Europe I really like Kronenbourg 1664 Pilsner draft. Stella for bottled brew. Some damn fine runners up are Carlsberg, St. Pauly Girls and Grolsch.

In the UK, Jeez I couldn't even begin to narrow it down but I really like Bass and Brown. Local ales and lagers are great in every region. (With the exception of Brains in Wales. That stuff is pure swill.)

I love a lot of Mexican beers Bohemia, Negra Modelo and Victoria to name a few.

Victoria bitters from Australia is fanstastic.

In South America I tend to drin either Club Colombia or Cristal (Peru not Cristal from Cuba, yuk!)

Japan actually has some nice choices. Kirin Lager is good, Suntory malts is real good.

Tiger beer from Singapore is quite good too, but danged expensive.

Years ago one of my old roomates and I had a 'keg-erator' (a refrigerator converted to hold a keg of beer) and we were on a tight budget, so it was typically one of the cheapest kegs we could find. We would make the trek inot D.C. to Riverside Liqours - they had 1/2 kegs of Bush beer for $25. We kept the keg at 1 degree above freezing (I think the freezing point of beer is around 29F). Cooooold beer is gooooood beer!

...and here I thought I was the only one left who ordered that! I'll usually get that when there are no single malt islays on the list.

Proper beer should be cellar temperature not freezin' cold. The only reason they make cold beer/lager is 'cause it tastes like hedghog urine when it's at a "normal" temperature. Even British beer [the one true kind at one time] is goin' down hill rapidly, what with all the local and regional brewers bein' bought up by the nationals/internationals. It's quite a mission to find a good beer in a proper pub nowadays, where most establishments are becoming "themed" replica's of the originals.

I had a bizarre experience in the Seychelles once, where, no matter how much of the local stuff you drank you didn't get drunk but, in the morning, the hangover was unbelievably bad!

I usually get Pilsner Urquell at my local watering hole (Brew's Cafe in Granville, OH), but I only get it from the tap. It ain't that good in the bottle.

At home, I will rotate between Dinkel Acher(sp), Miller High Life(bottle only), and Pabst Blue Ribbon(can only).

I used to be a part owner of a kegerator back in my university days too. You had to drink a lot in order to keep it working properly. We bought our's from a bar. It was 9 feet long, had 3 taps, and held 4 full sized kegs. It was a good night when you drank yourselves out of cold beer.

I won't post anything on this thread for beer choices. I am clearly an amateur among professional beer drinkers!

I'm with ya there!! Geez, thought I was going high class drinking Sam Adams Seasonal. Just got my first 12 pack of Winter Ale. I also have an open bottle of 12 yr old Macallan and 18 yr old Glenfiddich. I'm saving a 200ml bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue for a special occasion.

Kev - Bang on. I have shut down work for a Friday and am sitting here in my home office sipping on one even as I type.

When I go out I like to have a Guiness, Kilkenny, Boddington's. But after being in Germany this summer, I am deeply, passionately, lustily in love with Paulaner. Just don't tell my wife.

When beer is not on the menu, I like Johnny Walker Black. For some reason I find this blended to fit my palate. Not that I would pass by a malted scotch.

I enjoy the occasional bourbon. Maker's Mark is my number one choice, followed by Wild Turkey. Jack is good if the others can't be had.

And then of course there is the dry vodka martini (please no gin! Can't stand juniper berries!)

I'm starting to think I have an alcohol problem.
